Google Reviews Disappearing??

Anyone notice once in a rare while a google review disappears? I’ve had it happen twice now. Did some research and apparently it is a possibility either because of a glitch / bug or the way google evaluated for spam etc. If you have reviews that are similar sometimes they will flag it as spam and remove some etc. At least that’s what I read when researching the issue.

I have two reviews that have no relevanc. One a very neg review… The “potential customer“ called me for a quote the day after I popped my toe like grape and was treated for a open fracture. Let the guy know I am x number of weeks out, beyond the 6 week healing period. He wanted the job done sooner.. He called back a week later, and wanted me out to look anyway. I did and recommended two other companies, and that is when he went all Dr Jeckle on me and was yelling at me as I was hobbling back to the truck. (I saw just a spar, that someone else didn’t come back for, and got the feeling dude was a prick)..
The other is a 4 star from someone who I never worked for, nor know even! Some such wording as “…. Is such a great place to visit”
I flagged both, the first one multiple times even, no nothing… Not a reply from google, absolutely 0 anything…. I cared about the first one, as it was my FIRST and ONLY review on my business, which sucked…. Now it doesn’t matter much at all, as it appears in my eyes that I am the only company in my area with organic reviews and not ‘I’ll give you a x$ discount for a review’ kind of wording…

We have a review like that, a one-star rating from some name none of us have ever heard of. No words with it, just a single star. I report it to Google every couple weeks, when I think about it, but thus far they haven’t done anything and I don’t expect them to. It’s annoying though, because we have 90+ five-star reviews and only two or three four-star reviews, and that one silly one-star dropped us from a 5.0 average to a 4.9 average. We still have the best rating in the area of the real tree services though.

I don't like Google reviews.

I had a negative one from someone I'd never met or worked for and I had no way of correcting the situation.

I'm pretty sure that it was competitor driven but have no way of knowing. I looked at other reviews this person had given and he was evidently not happy with a lot of people.

The reviews on referring to here were actual reviews from customers of mine.

I did some research and it looks like sometimes google will delete reviews for stupid reasons like they are too repetitive with each other, it might flag as spam, etc. even though they are actually legitimate.

Also, has anyone noticed that a simple visit to a website these days will result in emails from that company--even though you never gave them your address? Apparently, it's now OK for them to match your IP Address to your email and begin hounding you; I call that harassment and a breach of privacy and it should be illegal.

I also noticed that emails from folks like UPS can be edited after you receive them; for example, when the predicted delivery date changes the email message updates. In the past, one could consider an email as a permanent document, but nowadays (as emails ultimately exist in the Cloud) they can apparently be manipulated after delivery. So much for paper trails, the greatest benefit of emails, in my opinion. Privacy be damned: The world's going to shit very fast now--and only the ultra rich and their corporations are benefitting. It's a good time to start using PDFs for any type of official statements--at least until someone figures out how to edit those on the fly.

I don't worry about the reviews at all. When you have lots it shows based on the great ones. Have one where we had them booked to give a quote for a tree Removal for about 6 weeks out from when they called. Not atypical for us to be that far out. She complained because she had to wait and gave 1 star and then dint show for the quote on the day it was scheduled. Some people are complainers. Most people know that and usually disregard 'that one bad review' IMHO

Speaking of google reviews. My wife and I are looking for roofers and one of the five contractors had horrible reviews. Something like six reviews and five were one star with lengthy write ups about taking money in advance and not showing up or returning calls. So that being said they do carry weight IMO.

No news is good news. People are much more likely to post negative reviews than positive reviews. I think the online review "services" are completely useless for conveying credible/relevant information. The bias towards negativity is implicit based on what we see in online/social media activity generally.
