Good to climb on and just normal wear and tear? Or should I cut this section off?

Wow Wolter, that is pretty impressive, breaking at over 2600 lbs with that amount of damage!
From that moment on I wasn't that scared of a nick in my rope. Not that I was more careless but looking at a nick when high up in the tree I sometimes wondered. From that moment on it was replaced with a relief knowing how much 'reserve' a rope has.

I totally agree.

And as my friend Don Blair has told me, "Remember, we climbed on 1/2-inch Grade One aka Class One 3-strand manila rope with an average mbs of 2,385 lbs. for over 100 years of modern arboriculture."

You guys should remember that, when you think about retiring a rope when you have 2 broken strands side-by-side on a 24 strand double braid climbing line.
