good rope to use with zizag

Best of luck, I'm working on losing some pounds, too... was 198 when the weather turned nice, and I'm down to 188 already, so I'm optimistic. Would like to be down below 175 by the end of summer.

I liked the ZZ on 16-Strand XTC, but even better on Cherry Bomb and KM Max. I bought an additional 75' hank of both of those ropes a few days ago to try them both for SRT with the Rope Wrench. I've now got the two ZZs on the 150' hanks of Cherry Bomb and KM Max and will use the XTC for a hitch climber setup. The ZZ does tend easier, and is a little smoother on the smaller ropes. I know the Cherry Bomb is 11.5mm and the KM Max feels a little smaller. It might be 11mm, I'll have to see if I can find its exact diameter. Tomorrow, I'm hoping to try the ZZ with RW for SRT, just to see how that works on these ropes.

BTW, the 75' length for the SRT lines is because I'm almost never any higher than that, and I've come up with a simple canopy anchor that I can install and retrieve from the ground, that only requires the climbing line to be as long as whatever maximum height you want (plus a little extra for redirects). I hate pulling an extra 75' of rope around and over limbs when I don't need to do that.

Where did you get that shackle for your zz? What's it rated at? I need one

For 5/16" SS the 5:1 WLL is about 1200 to 1300 lbs. so the 10:1 SWL would be around 600 lbs. (a two-person load).

Of course, with the ZigZag in a DdRT setup, it would only ever see half the load, but you aren't going to break one of those in an SRT configuration, either. Use blue Locktite on the threads of the pin on final assembly of your setup. I have ZZ setups where the rope splice is directly attached to the device with the shackle... I leave the ZZ on the rope, in the bag and thread the tail of the rope (no splice) through the ZZ before climbing.
