Nick I have 2 of the generic cubes from pier one I paid $12 each. I like them alot use them every day no probelems. I have used the real cube before but do not own one. The german cube is more money but it is also better. It folds better, the material does not absorb water, the pier is made out of canvas and I do not think it will work very well in the snow { I live in Chicago}. You get what you pay for. The investment will pay for itself in no time. It takes about 10 seconds to store 180' of line, comparded to 1-2 minutes to try to feed it back into a bag.

I hear on another site that Pier 1 imports sells a similar, but generic version of this cube for about nine dollars. Anyone else heard this?

I bought the qvc cubes and I handled the "original" ones several times while talking to Greg. Not much difference really. Sure the german ones are a little stouter, have a few more bells and whistles but basicly they are the same. Certainly not enough difference to say they "SUCK" and at +/- $8.00 each for the qvc model, what exactly are you complaining about? My hart goes out to the inventor thats for sure I wonder if they got international patents before marketing it...
Just wondering...

Just wanted to say something else.
Each time I check my basic climbing gear (what I use each day) and add up the cost of it, It is amazing just how much money it all costs- literally hundreds and hundreds of dollars- You ever talk to say an accountant they will tell you their up front costs to do business dont even come close to a tree business. The gear selling business is a good life, a real good life.
So anytime I come across a great deal I get excited

My QVC cube that I'm using, the 16 incher, has stitching gone already, where the flexible rods are held in. I can see they wont last long, but should be easily repairable. No problem I guess, but it's just one more thing to add to the list of things to do.

Got my fourth "magic box" yesterday from LTD Commodities . Pretty good one ...$ 3.95 + $1.00 shipping .
German Patent # : 299 12 268.9
China Patent # : 99 2 11605.8
Japan Patent # : 3065857
Taiwan Patent # : 152991
USA Patent # : 6149025

Which inventor are you gonna feel sorry for ?
