I haven't called in sick or late in 14 years,, I can usually expect 1 or 2 guys calling in on Monday. Get's pretty old. I am thinking about the next time someone calls in on Monday to tell them to take a couple extra days off without pay so they can feel better.

excuse given to manager monday morning after informing him that both climbers (twins) were going fishing " It's not our fault you were relying on us".
reply from manager was swift and appropriate.

If they can keep coming back then they'll keep coming up with excuses. Establish a 3 strikes policy. Require a doctor's note if they're sick the second or third time this excuse is used. Monitor attendance and punctuality. Make it policy that anyone wishing to take a day off needs to make the request 1-2 weeks in advance. But the most important aspect is a consequence for their actions.

IN knew a local guy around here... told his one employee he was coming in late and not to do that anymore.. He came in 5 minutes late shortly thereafter and got fired for it..
That will get everyone;s attention

Goes both ways. This morning my boss was too hungover to get out of bed. Didn't respond to any calls or texts until an hour and a half after I got to the shop and then it was only to text me the address and brief description of the job. He also told one of the guys who'd been waiting around an hour to go home.
