Gone Fishing

Did a oldie but goodie rigging scenario Friday. I have used this technique quite a few times, but never so direct. It has alway just been a part of a system.

Here we go: The tree is a 22" Box Elder Maple. Storm Damage from Irene.

The red arrows Mark where I placed the slings with shackles on the stem and a block at the head.

Here is a look down the stem.

I placed the slings at the intervals I wanted to rig the pieces. That way I could remove the shackle and put the block in its place as I worked my way down the stem.

This was the initial rigging point used to remove the brush.

Last one.

I was introduced to this method by none other than Riggs sometime in the late 90's. Not rocket science but a good way to reduce forces and keep your lowering line out of your own way!

I'll do a more detailed CASA podcast with the pix in a bit.

Thanks,

Zale,

I'd say it took 10 minutes or so out of the bucket. While I was doing that the ground crew was greasing the chipper, fueling saws. You know, gettin' ready. So in the end it saved time because I did not have to retie slings while they were waiting.

Not to mention it was kinda fun!

So did I Tony, in a round about way. Back when Riggs wrote some excellent rigging articles for TCI magazine...still have the articles to.

Nice work, I love the fishing pole technique.

Hey Tony , thanks for the shout out . Good stuff . Mad science is still science . Keep fishing , a direct line in riggging is a beautiful thing

thanks for posting, always interesting to see how other people approach the job.
