Getting back into shape. Advice?

What Taitree and JTree.

Crossfit is great for anyone of any age, size or ability(my step mom is 50 someting and doing it) . As for the diet, paleo is simple to do. The first couple of weeks are hard as you ween yourself off sugar. Even getting to a point where you do 70% paleo will change you. Just don't make the other 30% total crap. Plan your snacks. Not to many diets out there where Bacon is your friend.

Just shop the edges of the grocier store and that will be a good start.

I have a great pdf cookbook for the paleo diet. Muffin and cookies in it as well(almond flour). PM and I can email it to you. As well I'm very familier with the crossfit programing so ask any questions.

You really need to just go check out the box in your area.

Yeah, coming off sugar is an adjustment, but definitely good. Once you're not experiencing insulin dumps all the time in response to sugar you feel absolutely fantastic. Grain is the enemy!

There is another program for nutrition based on the book "the Rosedale diet" which is reall great, and talks about good fats as the prefered fuel of our bodies!! This dude knows his stuff. I have been tightrning the noose around my sugar intake and am probably 95/98% sugar free...at this point even my taste for sugar is going away. It is FOR SURE an addiction...WE must do what makes sense foro ur bodies... you cannot go wrong eating a whole food diet....
It is a worthwhile endeavour!! keep posted!!

I am similar size plus my college 15
ahhhhh.gif
. The height of my fitness was Spring of 2007 when I took my last year of track seriously and had a steady weight of 175 pounds. I did this by steady running (i was a distance runner) and eating just right portions. Doctors/trainers said 175 was to light for my body type but said it was ok for a few months then to get back at 185. Ran one semester in college then that was it. Stayed in decent shape working on the weekends and over summer breaks but still feel squishy.

Now I am motivated to get back to 2007 shape. The only way I know how to get in shape is running. So I have started running to get back into it. Motivation is the most difficult. I also plan to do some P90x focusing on the lifting and yoga sections. We will see how this turns out.

Just work. Plain and simple, work and work hard.

Don't quit until the job is done or it is dark.

Don't take a day off, or take it easy because you are sore or tired.

My eating habits suck.

Burger king tastes great. Beer is great.

No beer on weekdays, over two beers, or else muscles get cramping.

Always could eat whatever i wanted and not gain weight. Used to eat a whole stuffed crust pizza by myself for lunch, sometimes leave one slice. When i would open a big package of double stuff oreol cookies; I would eat the entire package. I didn't do it for the wow factor, just liked eating them and next thing I know the package was empty. Now, I only eat maybe 1/4 of the package per sitting.

Always stayed 170 to 175 lbs from age 18 to age 35. When in college, I wanted to be bigger in muscle, so weight trained 6 days a week and ate every meal until I hurt from the full stomach. I got to 190 lbs one year with a lot of work, all muscle, like 1 to 2 % body fat.

Now weight is 190 with age slowing down my body (38), and beer calories. I do eat a lot of fast food for lunch, it's easy and tastes good.

Wife does a good job, trying to make me eat healthier in the evenings.

haven't ever had my cholesteral checked, i mean too; might be bad.

I concur with Xman, work hard till the job is done.

For all of us certified arborists out there who do the job right, we can't afford to take liquid lunches, then be back at the yard at 2:30 ready for another round at the bar. Take pride in who you and how you look. There are too many hacks out spiking trees during pruning and cutting other corners.

A job done well is not supposed to be easy or everybody would be doing it.
Same goes for working out. Work out hard guys so when the job is done you play just as hard.

Basically work is what I do now. Used to run a lot until torn miniscus. I am too busy with work and family to get time for workouts so I just get physical at work do all aspects of the job. Climbing, lifting, dragging etc. We work old school no fancy equipment like chippers and cranes so everything is done old school. Would like to get a chipper though. I keep things simple and fortunately I have good genetics and can maintain my 6' 180lbs frame easily as I have a fast metabolism. I eat junk all day but the wife also tries to encourage healthy eating for me and our baby son. More success with Samuel though. Hate gyms, but love resistance training push ups chin ups sit ups etc when I have a chance.

I have two weights, my winter weight and my summer weight. During the winter I will get up to 180-185 (6' tall). Summer I will drop down to 170-175. It all depends on how hot it gets. I eat lots of fruit, drink lots of water and have one can of tuna fish for lunch. I eat very little processed food and don't drink anymore. Booze can be the killer calories.

Yeah I been sober for seven years and love it. Was a brutal drunk I am much happier these days. Wish I liked healthier food but it just tastes so bland. Like me some grease, and MY cholesterol is checked every year and its always normal.

Im not a globo gym fan ...i train in a box!! Crossfit 1force w a coach.. check out the WOD (s)... after an hour you are TOTALLY WIPED!!! it makes you stronger quicker tougher, more flexible mor endurance....etc etc!!!
http://crossfit1force.com/
there is a sense of unity in this place not a bunch of self absorbed pumped up dooffusses!!!

I'm 57. My training consists of 1 hour weight training the whole body in a circut style training method, then hit the road for a 2-4 mile run. I do this whenever possible.
I eat 2 meals a day with a healthy snack in the evening. maybe one beer some nights .Train in Tang Soo Do for flexability and endurance. Surf for fun and exercise. this healthy attitude should be a way of life not a fad. been doing it all since I was in my teens. Seems to work for me..

I've been eating Paleo for a couple months now and have never felt better. It is so much more about your diet than it is about exercise. You need to eat what our species evolved on, meat, fish, vegetables, fruit, and nuts. The agricultural revolution and all the foreign foods that it brought are still very recent in our overall history. If you start eating what your cells and your body grew up on, you will feel better, period.
It all comes down to a fundamental question: What does a lion eat? The answer is obvious: meat. Even a vegan would agree with that. So what if you took a lion and substituted half of its meat with corn? What would happen to it? I think most people would agree that the lion wouldn't die, it would just be a little less of a lion, a little weaker, a bit more sickly, mainly because it wasn't getting the nutrients that its forefathers for 1000's of generations had always lived on. What if we removed even more of the meat from its diet and substituted corn? It would continue to get weaker and sicker. Now what if we switched the lion's diet slowly back to meat? Most people would agree that the lion would react favorably, and would get stronger and back to its old self, simply because this is the lion's natural diet.
So if this is true of lions, why wouldn't it be true of ourselves?
