Concolor fir after lightening hit it.

John, you took a great picture. I lightened it up some for ease of viewing. And thanks for the shots of using the ratchet straps. I plan to add some to my kit.

Gave a bid for a removal this morning. Its so rotted that I thought a crane was the only way, but an idea hit me while I was driving, so I went back to look and I'm going to use my new GRCS cuz crane would tear up the yard.
To be continued.... /forum/images/graemlins/willy.gif

Redirect (It was easy to pull in case any of you on Nick's redirect thread were wondering)

So rotted that the client did this with her foot. That's why I thought I needed the crane. Where there's a winch there's a way.

Since it went 'slicker than snail snot' she wants me back in the spring to take down the big oak in the second picture /forum/images/graemlins/pbj.gif

I have used a Hobbs for years and still do , but also have Two Grcs.

I wish I had some pics of a large medesto ash I worked on today to testify the Grcs. Theere was a 24" by 35 40 ' limb that laid down on a tile roof still attached at the trunk, that I decided to use as a training day with the crew .The only damage that occured and remained whenn we left was the initial two tiles that broke from a from a four inch stob wich kept the main limb and foliage from tearing off half the tiles.

Another 30' limb that stretched out over the house I took in one shot. It was probably 10" in dia . The only reason I was able to do this particular Limb in one piece was beacause of the Grcs.

With a Hobbs as good as it is, I could never have kept the continual pressure and height I needed to keep it from dragging tiles off the roof.

With all the lowering devices we have I still trade off when rigging. Sometimes even the basic wrapes on the trunk. I like to get the guys on the crew aquianted and proficient with all aspect of lowering devices.

Thanks
Greg

I was thinking about it, but only with a crane to hoist the pieces up. I told her that was the only way I'd do it, until the neighbor told me we could trash the swingset.

you get an "atta boy " for that. It amazes me when I see people risking their lives on a trees that can be felled. If you couldn't trash the swing set I'm sure it could've been moved.
