Fungus ID question

Not to in any way disparage the knowledge base here on the buzz, but there might be a faster way home for your inquiry. I found a mushroom and fungi identification page on facebook. It's Florida Centric, but lots of mycologists chiming in on identification. There's been substantive mention on that page of similar pages for other states. You might want to do a search on fb for North Carolina Mushroom ID or similar for Fungi ID. Multi-colored polypores all look like Tramedes versicolor to me, which is why I try to get somebody else to ID them. Tv is a saprophobe though, so it would be out of place on a live tree, so it's probably something else.

Try Ischnoderma resinosum resinous polypore. Audubon Field Guide is good, Mushrooms of North America has some outdated sci names but really good, I use those and a NEast specific one for mix of descriptions and pics.
