Free Buff from TreeStuff shipped in large box.

I know we're getting a bit off topic, but I'll ask anyways. For you guys who have a gaff that you like but wish that it was lighter, would it be possible to grind a fuller on either side of the shank like a bladesmith would do to reduce weight on a knife or sword?

Personally I'm running steel Klein spurs with big buck pads. They are heavy but they are all I've known so I'm ok with them. More important than weight, they are quite comfortable.

Since we’re on the topic, Rico, what do you think of the bucklite titaniums? I’m fed up with my cf geckos. The profile made me feel like I took a few steps backward in my spurs game. I made them work for a few years because of the price tag and weight, but I’m over them. I didn’t mind the Velcro lowers, but the Velcro died in about 18 months, and now it pops loose constantly.
Buck titaniums are wonderful. Combine them with some caddy pads and you have a supremely comfy, very lite weight, and indestructible set of spurs.

I know a lot of folks rave about the Distel carbons but I am reluctant to try them for fear that they will also come up flat. I owned a pair of the DMM Distels a few years back and they were a very nice set of spurs, but I just couldn’t get along with the gaff profile/geometry. I climbed in them for about a year and I gaffed out (I fucking hate gaffing out) more in those things than I have in 3-4 decades of climbing in Bucks and Bashlins.

Thanks for that confirmation. The gaffing out is precisely what I hate, too. I spend so much focus and energy on keeping my spurs in that I can’t move the way I like to. And there’s no feeling like gaffing out while cutting with a 395.

The opsal caddy pads are precisely what I had in mind. Had them on my buck steels that boomslang sold me years ago.

I find it amazing that after all these so called latest and greatest groundbreaking designs the setup I have been climbing in for 40 years (caddys & buck/bashlin) is IMHO still king when it comes to comfort and durabilty.
The core of this statement is the same as whatI was thinking of in the Fawlty Towers reboot...as well as trying to improve any system, tool or practice that works so well. Existential thoughts in life.

My first pair of gaffs were buck ti’s. Loved the profile. KK's are light and comfy. But the gaff profile are nowhere as nice as the buckinghams.

Slight derail to the derail, does anyone know where I can get the little lock pin for the kk spur scendar ? Actually I found the pin after it fell out but it appears to be missing something that holds it in. It has a little groove near the end like it might have had a washer? Or o-ring? I don’t know what looking for, but it just falls out now

Can you post a photo of the pin/groove? It sounds like it may have had a C-clip in it. I’ve never seen that ascender close up though, so I cannot say for certain. Just making an educated guess from what little I know.

Im not Rico either but Im a big fan of the bucklites. I have 6 or 7 pairs of spikes. They are by far my favorite. They fit me really well. Im 6'2" and 220 so some of the spikes are a bit small on me. I tried a pair of aluminum geckos years ago but I have a 12w foot and my boots wouldnt sit flat as the geckos were pinching the bottom of my sole.

I had a pair of edelrid spikes for about 6 months. I liked some things about them but they were bad about gaffing out. I never did get comfortable with trusting them. They fit well and were comfortable. Just wouldnt stay in the tree as I actually worked.

Buffs have replaced neoprene can kuzees as the go-to advertising gimme. It would be nice if vendors would have a check-off to opt out of the gimme stuff.
Actually looking to add this feature to our website. In the meantime we have had people write to us in the order comments not to throw any free items in. Which we do appreciate them telling us.

Distel makes great spurs! They were the original manufacturer of the Gecko spurs. Any of the Notch 2.0 series is not made by Distel.
Our plan is to have Distel's carbon fiber series.
