For your deer hunters

I don't post very often but I just want to send a reminder out about tree stand safety. I took a bad fall of 21 ft out of a treestand this October. I broke my right arm in 2 places and my pelvis in 1 place. The thing is I had on my harness but forgot to clip it in to my safety line. I was in such a rush to get in the woods that afternnoon that I spaced out and forgot to clip my biner. I wear a rock climbing harness when I hunt as it closest to being like my work harness. I am healing up real good and start pt for my broken arm next week. The moral of the story is don't get in a rush when doing anything aloft or in our case of treeworker as bad things can happen. The funny part was when the game warden called to find out what happen and I told him I forgot to clip in. He asked do you also put your stands that high . I had to laugh and said I am use to being anywhere from 20 to 100 feet on a daily basis and 2o does not seem that high. I hope to be climbing soon. Be safe out there and slow down and take your time as it is not worth it to be in a rush. Keith kanzler

What weapon were you hunting with? Did it fall out of the tree too? I can imagine falling and getting shot or impaled by an arrow to be possible.

I hope you heal fast and well. I have a static line that I run from the base to about 5' above my stand. I tie in with a klemheist before I leave the ground.

I usually have a lifeline in most of all my treestands but this one I only had a short one at the top by the stand. I would climb up the sticks and then clip in. I made a big mistake and forgot to clip in as I got in a rush. I am on the mend and have since made sure all of my stands have lifelines. even ladder stands.
