Fleet

Man Jim you have it sweet. If you could Turn off the AC some more maybe I could hack it. Who am I trying to kid, you would have to turn the heat on in June for me.
But after spending a couple of day's with them last year they keep the fleet in sweet shape. Nice photos here's one from me.

THANKS!! For the kind words, same back at you.
We were happy you came up and sad to see you leave! You would have made a great addition to our family/team!

I wish I could control the heat and A/C. Id leave it at 68 year round....maybe 75 for the weekends.

That is an insane fleet.

It is honestly hard for me to imagine what it would be like to work for an outfit that thoroughly equipped.

How many days per week does the crane go out?

You must have a fairly wide radius you work in to keep that amount of equipment busy.

What is the huge chip trailer for that goes with the Pete??
Do you guys clear land and fill it up with a whole tree chipper? If so you must have skidders too?

And when you have all those chips do you guys have a mulch operation to deal with them or do you dump them elsewhere?

Tree equipment has a reputation for getting generally trashed before its time... all your equipment looks quite well cared for... what's your secret for keeping things un-beatup with what I'm guessing is alot of employees in the mix?

Do you use ever use the Bobcat Versahandler for picking up wood? Or, do you just use it for plowing?

The CRANES (we have 2 of those yellow beauties) work 5-6 days a week.

We work from Boston up to Southern NH. We have 4 shops.

The live floor is for chips. We keep all our chips, and allow ANYONE to dump clean chips at our shops. We then truck them to the power plants in Maine and New Hampshire. They burn them for hog fuel (biomass) We sometimes will chip into it. We don't have a skidder, we use the crane, skidsteer, and man power for all our clearing jobs. we have access to skidders if need be. When we had our Morbark 30/36 we could fill that trailer in SEVEN minutes!!

Our boss is INSANE about keeping the trucks clean. Every night trash comes out. We take extra precautions when working around them. And they are detailed inside and out EVERY weekend! Its great coming in Monday to a sparkling truck.

The Versahandler is used for loading chips, and plowing. We also use it for other odds and ends. Loading trucks, pulling engines, lifting stuff etc etc etc. Great machine!

How do you guys like the ToolCat 5600? That seems to be an "all around" type of machine.

I am the only one who runs that, so far! lol Its awesome. We got it loaded, A/C CD player, aggressive tires, extra lights etc etc etc. We just bought it and it has around 40 hours on it. We have a bucket, snowblower, sweeper, and sander for it. I cant wait to put the grapple on it and see what it can do. I don't think it will see too much time in the woods tough as we have a T300, and S300 for those jobs.

Thanks for the detailed answer BB!

That's a great way to get rid of chips.

I woke up this morning and realized I had been dreaming about that crane!?!?!

With its compact size and massive capacity it must run cirlces around say 33 ton truck cranes (which I use and really like) in terms of productivity. Will it go 55mph on the highway or is it a slow vehicle?
You said it's outriggers set up less wide than a truck crane...how so? I would think a given boom height and reach etc would necessitate a given outrigger spread, whether the outriggers are attatched to a truck or a crane like Mayers.

The crab steering must be a big help in protecting driveways when the vehicle is turning.

With that rather huge company, I'm guessing your boss personally does virtually no treework, probably all managing, maybe some selling...true??

Read the charts on the Grove website. We need 24' wide to set-up. MOST Truck cranes are near 28-30.

It doe 53 on the highway. We added a $40,000 option. It is a brake that works like getting opposing magnets close to each other. It has a Jake Brake as well but this thing is incredible. I couldnt explain it the way he can but I know it saved a lot of money in the long run. Brakes are $9,000 per WHEEL!

The crab steering helps some but the MEGATRACK Hydroneumatic suspension, and giant tires really help keep the weight distributed.

Quite the opposite, Scotty will attest to it. he runs the crane 3-4 days a week. The other days he is in meetings or doing volunteer work. He was the president of the Mass Arborists Association last year. He drags brush everyday, runs the skid steer etc etc etc. He does selling at night and on the weekends. he is a working man, and you would have to meet him to understand. Never stops!
Its much easier to work for a guy like this than some pencil pusher. he knows what its like in the field, daily, and wouldn't have anyone do anything he wouldn't do. I also do not like climbing for either of the other operators as much as him, I learned with him and theres a comfort level there. I have also been known to be out at 5:00 p.m. grinding stumps and picking up logs with him......

I could go on and on but.....
