First try with a helmet cam

I noticed the sawing motion too. Reaming back and forth like that can cause kickback. Understandably a dull, weaker 310 might necessitate that 'sawing', but something to try avoid.
Nice vid though!!

Dang Ranger please don't take this the wrong way but even though I liked your video, I really have to comment on the saws and their dullness. It makes absolutely no sense continuing with the dull saw, if there is not another saw already sharp and ready to fire, call for the file and give it a whirl in the tree. The time spent doing this will be made up when the chain starts eating wood. Second work the dogs and make them bark ( let the saw do the work ). I use stihl and I got a 260 which would outrun that dead 310. It is the second saw I reach for that barks wildly nothing with the number 3 in the quiver. 200, 260, 460, 660. Keep up the good work, at least ya ain't scared to post so much kudos to you.

Hey ranger nice job for your first Helmet vid!
And as far as the sawing motion goes.....well if your gonna keep doing it then I suggest you shut the saw of throw on the brake and save fuel otherwise put it to the dogs!
Looking forward to more vids

Again Ranger filing is real therapeutic and what a rush after a filing session to set them dogs loose and see that saw bite in and eat wood like smoke. Keep sending the vids dude.

When both my groundies started working for me they would invariably do the same thing ( sawing motion ) nothing more irritating that the misuse of an expensive tool. Teach, teach and more teach. They are now broken from that bad habit. A chainsaw is NOT a handsaw or a hacksaw for that matter.

Sawing motion back and forth can help keep the bar and chain cool(er).

Yeah, right.

but, it is good to do if you are expecting possible pinching, so you have a feel on whether the pinch or no pinch is happening.

Yeah X but that is a technique of not getting your saw caught in a closing kerf, the movement of the bar in not as drastic as what Ranger is doing in the video. But I do understand what you are saying. He is fighting with a dull saw and it's definitely not because of a closing kerf, he is using the saw like a knife.

Its called friction.
A bit of saw motion isn't going to hurt.
I am not suggesting a vigorous in n out.
Slow n steady.

Sorry Rope that just sounds like you are using a bad pick up line in a bar at 4 am, sooooo wrong!
