First splice

deevo

Been here a while
Ok I think it turned out alright what do you guys think ? I'm totally green to splicing and used the Samson fids and marlin spike. I used 5/8 double braid, ABR rigging ring on one end and steel ring on the other, I have 5 others like this done mainly by Pelorus and are used for almost everything ! I still have to lock stitch but don't have a big enough needle! I'll have to get one today to finish it off.

Nice job Deevo. I think you'll find the wire fid to be your best friend in splicing. Prepare for splicing EVERYTHING. Next thing you know, you'll have about 8 lanyards. ;)

Looks good. Rigging ropes are typically easier than climbing lines in my opinion. On another note I have 4 of those spliced up in vary size cordage and love them. The large rigging ring allows to leave the rigging biner on and pull it out to redirect

Yes it wasn't too bad, I'm not one for patience sort of speak but picked up on it quick and the Samson instructions were good I thought. Dave aka Pelorus made me one up a few years ago and a few since like this configuration, large steel ring and X or ABR rings and are great! Also have a few bigger ones for vertical speed lining large wood that are great! I'm hoping to do some lanyards and climbing ropes in the winter when I have more time.

Nice splicing Deevo. I'm a greenie also. In the process of setting up a little spot in the basement. Making cabinets under my splice bench, and setting up for some winter down time. Have a few projects I want to splice with no time to practice. For a first splice, yours is inspiring.

Nice job, @deevo . I like the setup, which must make for easy retrieval with an overhand knot passing the steel ring but grabbing the ABR ring. I'm sure that allows you to use a wide variety of rope diameters with that rigging sling.

I realize you stated that the locking and whipping still needs to be done. When I splice up rings like that, I like to finish one side and lock it before moving on to splice the second side. This is only because it helps me build the sling with better balance between core and cover. This is especially true with larger DB rope on which the eye can alter size rather easily until it's locked, and when there's such a short length from e2e, where working the second eye can alter the first. With that particular sling, I would splice and lock the ABR ring first, because the second type of ring is much less particular about the eye size.

Alright, enough of my babble. Keep up the good work, Devon!

Great thanks for that advice, I'm really new at splicing so every little bit helps ! I mentioned it before but Dave aka Pelorus has made me about 4-5 of these now that we've been using for about the last 2.5 years daily, and use them primarily until we get to any big wood then we switch to a block or bigger rings, but for all round general use this set ups pretty sweet and ideal!
