first helm cam project, simple removal off willow

Whats the " knot " you were using to secure the pieces, ooked like just some wraps? looked a little iffy. I filmed a bunch today, but forgot to turn lense so everything is sideways, good video too, what a waste.

I think it was a timber hitch, although not too sure. Nice video, however, a couple things I noticed: Nobody on the ground was wearing a brain bucket, it looked like a rescue pulley was used for butt-hitching, and it looked like the TIP was a sucker-top? I don't like to be a critic, but I know how the safety police can be.

Nobody on the ground wears brain buckets : that's because the customers (2 men and 1 woman) were told not to entry the work site...but my climbing mate asked them for one piece to help pulling it inton the garden.....

It was impossible to drop something out off the tree into their brains anyway...only water under.

My climbing mate wich I hired for rigging work allways works without helmet. It''s his own responsibility and for me I respect his personal choice not to wear a helmet, alltough it is not safe. My company is a one mans company and I hire people for climbing, rigging, chipping etc.
And if they want to do things their own way it isn't my problem, just frustrating sometimes when colleages mess with safety issues...

The knot is indeed the timber knot en you tie it in loosly to set it after making all these wraps. Thats a perfect knot to hold the wood.

The chiansaw was sharp untill I cut trough a rotten piece off wood with an old nest (crow) on top off it and sand got to mess up my chain.

The pulley is from ISC and it is an rigging pulley that I use for easy rigging as well as the retired climbing line. The big block and heavy riggingline just would have been overkill for this little pieces.

My tip if you paid good attention was rigged on 2 sucker tops. contour willow 7 It would have been a really dangerous job if I had my tip any lower. The last bit I used one tip on a sucker top to maintain position without having to fight gravity on only my lanyard.

hope that clears all up.

Did not to intend to ruffle your feathers, I enjoy the entertainment value of all videos posted here on TB. I just know how the safety buzzards can be--harsh critics at times. I respect your decsions, however there are always many ways to accomplish the same job, and I may have done some things differently. Keep the videos coming though...

I thought perhaps a timber hitch, but I would have to disagree on perfect for rigging, running bowline, or clove with 2 halfs?? My ground guy is same way with helmet, but he's been wearing it more and more, just drop a really small branch from lower in tree, that ight smart him.LOL

It's good to coment on eachother climbing and working style...that's the main reason to become more aware off safety and efficienty. I'm not taking it as negative response it's just that I do some things like I do because it has proven to be the best in some specific situations for me. And I like to answer when peopple make comments to explain what's going on and why and what I choose.

I will post future movies as they come and hope to find a better movie maker for my contour full HD helmcam.

thanks

Wout, I work with lots of guys like that also, but I don’t respect them for it. Treework is a team effort, and their personal lack of discipline leaves the side vulnerable.

When an accident occurs the climber will take the wrap, not the dead guy. Your friend ought to wise up, respect your position and consider the bigger picture....helmets are far more comfortable than they were, and there’s generally one to suit all preferences, as you know.

Agreed. I appreciate someone telling me something I can do better, or did wrong. None of the local tree companies around here offer ANY advice or help, so I came here. Arboristsite had too many wise asses. Love it here

I know, you should talk to him en try to get this in 2 his mind....I've been trying for the last 8 years ;-)

treework is indeed team efford but some ppl just don't get the whole picture and are damn good climbers, thats what makes things difficult. If he wasn't such a good climber I wouldn't hire him.

Nice job, even if some people pointed out some legit safety issues.
I am impressed by everyone who is willing to 'go out there' and post their efforts for all to see. It takes more than a bit of courage knowing that there will be some criticism most likely. But we all learn and I for one really enjoy all the vids. The only saddening thing would be to have no feedback at all.
Comments on vids in general:
I sometimes see stuff that does not seem safe to me on vids and when other people point it out also, I realize I'm getting a better eye for how things ought to be done and for spotting dangerous situations.
And sometimes I see stuff that looks good and is something I might not have thought of on my own.
And there is more than one acceptable way for most things to be done - given the species, weather, skill level and tools available to the person actually doing the work.

I'll be in the Netherlands this summer visiting relatives. I'll look in the trees and maybe I'll spot your green gloves and your helmet cam. And hopefully your buddy will have a lid on!
