First day on the rope runner

On DdRT there is no change in friction do to being close or far away from your tip. The changes you are feeling are from the hitch as it works in during a climb.

There is only one tool that I know of that does not bend the rope for load support in any way, the HH. All others do to a more or less extant. The more the bend the more tail weight will have an effect.

Tried the 1/2 km3 today, it's like the heavy duty version of rope. The diameter isn't much different than Tachyon which was a surprise, but so far I like it.

Blue sexy.

That photo should be used as an ad shot for the Rope Runner. It makes it look just gorgeous.

Maybe I missed it, fitz, but you purchased your Rope Runner fairly recently, correct? I'd love to read about how well you get on with it. Specifically, I'd like to know about how it feels with regard to the spring tension on the bird.

I think Stihlmadd posted some pics of his Rope Runner in which he'd added some Sugru to the beak of the bird, as a cushion.

I also think the combination of colors looks great. What biner is that, if you don't mind my asking?

Congrats, and I hope you have a blast on it!

Very nice, way to coordinate color. Highly fashionable.

Yeah, it matches my underwear.

Me and the RR have been through a lot, a bit of a story, I've owned the gold, black, and of course blue. If you are coming to the Expo maybe we can meet up and I can tell it to ya.

Sugru might be needed more for certain kinds of rope, the Tachyon for instance I've found easy to push down on the bird, my new km3 I've found to be a lot harder but maybe with time it will become easier.

That's the DMM biner, I think it works better than the RockO in a few ways. It's a little more compact, if you are pushing up the RR with the biner you won't keep pushing on the spring lock. Since the DMM is more consistently round it wears on the body of the RR more evenly, the RockO would just rub on one side.

Thanks for all of this good information, fitz. I appreciate the offer of discussing the Rope Runner, but I don't think I'm going to be able to make it to the Expo. Hopefully I'll get to read about how you get on with the new blue one here in the forum. Thanks again for your time.

I would like to have feedback from some of the climber that are using the gold version of the rope runner . I've been climbing on this awsome device for 4 months and I really like it . But lately it become really skippy when I start my descent , I tought at first that maybe it was my climbing line ( dirty , wet etc...) but I wash my line every month. I also really take care of the device , clean it every 2 weeks etc... Look like this friction is add at the pulley , and when I push on the bird , the bird disengage slowly and smooth but the rope stay jam between the pulley and the other removal part. I saw on treestuff that we can buy a replacement kit for the pulley... I climb 5-6 days a weeks and I'm a big guy 6'2 215 do you think I have wear out the pulley already?? Do you guys have notice anything like that on your runner?

I have heard the same thing from a few guys. I don't have a problem with mine but the jumpiness is most likely the pulley. Treestuff sells them for like $15-$20.I'm thinking that's the solution to your problem. Hope it helps, Steve.

No jumpiness on mine, but I am seeing significant wear on the metal sheaves where the bolt holds it together where the rope continuously runs over it. Like a lot of wear. Anyone else?
FFM-I will watch and pay more attention to the pulley.

You can spin them and get a little more life out of them if need be

Yeah, I would order another pulley. We are looking to get some ball bearing pulleys going soon that I think will have longet life. I have talked to people who have run their pulley for over a year with no issue and others that it burns out within a few months. I think dirt and conditions have an effect. Order another pulley and your good to go. The bollards wear especially fast right off the bat but then they mellow out as the surface are gets more.

I checked out treestuff, the upper friction Axle is replaceable but the lower appears to take a different piece that is not offered for sale. They look pretty similar to me
Kevin-what's the story with the lower axle replacement piece?
Thanks
