First Chip truck help

The Mitsubishi Fugo looks like a nice truck and I've heard they are very reliable. I looked up the specs and the GVW is only 14,050 lbs. and the the GVCW is 21,765 lbs. This is not enough truck to handle a chip box, load of chips and pull a chipper.
I started with an F450 chip truck and then upgraded to an F550 with a 19,500 GVW. I think this is the right size truck to legally handle a full load of chips and pull a chipper in the 5000 lb. range.

I use a f450 with a 7.3 liter. Low gears, but the truck is definitely working pretty hard. Wooden chip box on a mason dump pulling a Bandit 250xp. The truck gets the job done, but doesn't do anything too special. Make sure your brakes are in good shape and think about adding a leaf or two for extra stability. That should put you in good shape for a first chip truck.

My 03 f250 crew with everything cost me $550/ month. That seems high for a used work truck. Although it does look nice. 60,000 on a 6.0,even if it is a newer generation is ready to cost you thousands in repair. If you cannot live without it, pay them cah and with the thousands you save you can get the motor straightened out.

Keep looking.

My first chip truck was 14' 14k dump trailer pulled behind my Ram 2500.
Then I bought a used 06 f450 with a 6.0. Yes the EGR cooler went bad as they all do but I had a Ford certified mechanic do the work as a side job, a welded EGR cooler replaced the oil cooler and did an EGR delete on the PCM for 9bengies. Just saying.

Yep, you can delete the egr cooler all together if you don't have to get emissions inspected.

Also be weary if the truck has a tuner, generally the trucks with tuners on them are the ones blowing the head gaskets.

If you buy a 6.0 you should definately have a good mechanic with a good scan tool look it over, the injection control module goes bad in it..... so do the injectors.

Anyways, 23k seems like a lot for that truck, is it even a 4x4?

We have a 6.0 as well. We bought it new, great truck with no problems for 60,000 plus miles. Just did the egr and oil cooler. baught the oem parts an my mechanic and I did the repairs in about 10 hrs. Did I mention the 60,000 plus miles were not driving ms daisy on the highway.

I am about to sell a very cherry 91 4700 international with a 22 yard arbortech chip box. we have put a new not rebuilt 6 +1 spicer transmission, rebuilt the two speed rear end, new pto. new rear main seal, new clutch, new paint and body work, also has a remanufactured brake booster, bindex, and master cylinder. it has the newer model hood and a bad to the bone bumper, it also has the big 5.9L inline six. the motor only has 84,000 original miles. It has the bench seat, big tool boxes, newer tires, no rust anywhere this is an inland southern truck. It will have a new gage package when i sell it and new rubber on the floor. this truck has no leaks. i would feel very comfortable driving this thing to alaska for someone. I am hard on climbing gear but i maintain my equipment consistently. everything has been done by licensed mechanics at known shops. this truck will work until the day i sell it. PM if interested.

it was an ok truck when i bought it, but now it is a great truck. It will go 75ish with a 9500lbs chipper behind it. it will pull any hill i point it at fully loaded with the same chipper behind it. plus it looks good and is easy to work on.

Nice here are some photos of my chipper body build up
