Firefighter calls tree rescue \'scariest\' he\'s ever

I am unsure if this was posted or not but I think it is worth reposting. If you look at the pictures and the cut he made you can see that he tried to top it out where he was. And the cut looks like he just cut right from the back. It looks like the top got caught up in the trees behind and pushed back at the tree he was in and he was in the middle.

Tennis shoes and most likely no hard hat...his experience level can easily be predicted.

That guy being an arborist is probably about as close to me being a production butcher. I can get a knife and cut apart a whole chicken. You should see me slice sausages into little pieces.

Seems sketchy to have the fireman up on the ladder, unsecured.

Pinned down by a branch? Looks to me he was squashed in the notch with a top that got stuck in another tree. Or squashed with the flipline onto the trunk by a splitting stem.

It looks like he is one lucky shi* that that top got stuck.

This rescue has been talked about here before ( this possability of a rescue). The arbo is unable to bring him/her self down and they are tied to the top of the spar with no other high point above and a widow maker hanging. Wont comment on how the fire department went about getting the guy down seeing how they did what they could for what training they have in the subject. This is a great reason thou why we could offer to train with the local fire department on tree rescues. Even if it is to show them are climbing setups and what to look for when they get there. If that ladder trucks main would not have reached what would they have done? called for the coast gaurd and risked the chance of shaking the notched top loose taking out the victim on the way down? Stay safe out there.
