Fid for Brummel?

What do you like for splicing dynamic cable/rope (Branch Saver, for example) for tree support?

A "regular" 1/2" fid works OK, but I don't need the length and it is a bit cumbersome. Also, I don't have one big enough for the 3/4" rope when I use that (less common). That is kinda loose enough to open up and work it through without a fid, but would be easier with.

Would one like this at @Arbsession work? https://arbsession.com/seadog-stainless-steel-splicing.html

I'd rather just use the smaller one because of the compact size in a tree. I'd assume the larger branch saver will fit through since it is 3/4" flat...

Make the line itself into a fid by wrapping it w Painters tape to a point. Iirc dynamic cabling is loose enough braid that you don't really need a fid- been a while since I've installed any tho

It works...that is what I have done with the bigger stuff, but it is certainly smoother with a fid.

I have a fid similar to that and use it for hollow braids. I like it. You may prefer the larger version, I use the lager version more frequently.

Mine are from Wesspur "stainless splicing fids"

I've used a thicker walled aluminum piece of tubing.. cut the end a little steeper than 45 degrees and sanded smooth. This goes inside the rope (kinda like a core) then the bitter end taped hard to it with electrical tape. Its about the diameter of a sharpie.

Same idea but instead of painters tape I like to use heat shrink tube.
