Feeling Frustrated!

Currently work at a company in CA with about 30-40 climbers and maybe 2 other than myself know how to "footlock the tail" :( Let's not even get into footlocking as an access option. I was going to run through a demo of how to prune a palm tree by setting 1/4" amsteel via throwline, attaching a rope to biner, swivel, whatever, hoisting it up, anchoring it at the base - you get the idea. Then I realized it was pointless because no one would be able to footlock up and stay on the outside of the palm fronds anyway!!

When you say footlocking the tail are you using one or two feet? I think the single foot method is easier to teach and learn then the two foot method.

Two foot. SRT is not even a remote possibility, though that would be exactly where to go.

Use the same set up that you described, but haul up a pulley with a DdRT system through it instead of a SRT line, and footlock up that.

That's what I'm planning to do. I appreciate everyone's input - just getting normal feedback from you all helps me know that I'm not going crazy :)

40 climbers?? Man that has to be big orange or a company like that right?

Not necessarily. With the amount of beetle kill and the droughts in California, all sorts of lucrative contracts are available to anyone capable of putting in a bid. The number of tree services/fallers/hazard remediation companies grows weekly. There are serious downsides to such rapid growth. The number of companies that could boast 50+ climbers is pretty high, I couldn't venture a guess.

When I started, a foot lock was one of the first skills I learned. The more advanced tools become, I think the more people become dependent on them.
Sorry, boss. Can't get the job done, my levitation boots shorted out.
