Facebook?

Any of the owners here set up a Facebook page for their company. If so has it helped in gaining business or other ways?

Just started it. If you have customers on Facebook, you can get they to check it out. Put up pictures of their work, and their friends may see it.

I made one for our family business that my dad and I run. Doesn't see much traffic now but once I take over it will because I will advertise it to new customers. I use it now as a google link so they have something to look at for a "website" when they search us.

I tried it, but at the time I went through my wife's account because you had to have one to have the other, and I don't have a personal account. This turned out to be a big mistake, because I can't communicate with other FB'ers as myself or business. When I reply and communicate, it looks like it's my wife talking LOL! AND I have a ton of followers, etc that I will need to redirect once I 'fix' this issue!

Having said all that, I think it is a really smart idea, and I plan on using it much more once I get it in place.

I've checked out a couple of other tree guys Facebook page. I do notice that the owners are not updating it with pictures or comments. Some haven't made a post for several months. This may concern me as a potential customer I would think?

Is this just another thing to keep up with? I could see when I'm busy I wouldn't have the time for it.

Cameron, i think it would be important to keep it fresh, but relevent, not making useless posts for the sake of it.

A facebook update need not take much more time that a single post on treebuzz with an image attachment.

I think for a tree service it would be a good way to showcase work and kind of include your clients. They might get a kick out of you proudly showing their work & direct their friends to have a look, creating referrals.

We have a facebook account. I dont think it has directly related to any sales but it helps us keep up with industry partners and friends which in turn may lead to future sales.

I have a personal FB account but don't really post on it. Just use it ti check up on friends and their posts. I have, however, sold firewood to at least 2 people who got my name and number from facebook through client referral. Of those 2 people, I did bid on a tree ob while I was delivering the firewood.

YOu really do not want Facebook as your sole means of interaction. It is merely a link in a network of a web based presence. You also did hit it if you are not going to post with some sense of regularity....best to wait until you think you will or designate someone to run the page for you! SOmeone around the age of 15 would be best....lol

Can´t say it has given us any jobs yet but it is a great way to communicate and promote the company out to the public. In Norway just about everybody with an internet connection is on Facebook. Our PM and ministers in government are among the most active users, so here it is not just for kids. KLM had a very successful attempt during the Icelandic ash cloud to communicate with their costumers, one could even cahnge tickets etc through their Facebook profile.
It is mainly a way to communicate, but so is sale too.

Trev makes some good points the professional pride thing is relevant, as for generating work depends on your market I quess.

I know the company I used to work for in the north would have 0.001% of their clients that accessed the internet, but in a denser metro area I can see how it could generate some leads.

I have a personal page and use it to keep in touch with friends and colleagues mostly in Europe.
