Eye-To-Eye Locking Brummels

Hi guys, I’m having trouble forming the second locking brummel in my 3/8” tenex line. I’m using the standard LB for the first eye, then I’m trying to use the Mobius Brummel for the second eye, but getting the hole to capsize back near the final steps in the splice isn’t going well.

Should I not even be using the Mobius Brummel, but just using a LB and passing the standing part and first eye splice through the tale instead? I thought the Mobius would be easier, since you don’t need to bring the standing part of the line all the way through.

Sorry if this has already been covered someplace else in this forum.

Thanks
Chris

Chris, the Mobius Brummel is a very neat trick, but, as you are finding, not so easy to pull off. You end up with a standard LB, but I think it is much easier to just make another LB by pulling the whole standing part through. I find it easiest to pull the eye through using some small-diameter cord.

I use a large Swedish fid and open the braid nice and wide so I can just push the first brummel through. It works well. That flippy floppy brummel stuff isn't necessary.

I have a pair of pliers that are duck-billed, very smooth and flat. I find I can insert them through (entering the direction of the formation of the 'hole) and gently draw the rope back through (to reverse or capsize it as you say). It helps when making a tight eye using the LB.

Oh great! I see it now. Thanks pigwot. I have a pair of snap ring pliers that would do that well.
