This is by far the worst lightning damage I hav ever seen.

The guest staying in this cottage said "There's a big hole in the bedroom ceiling from my head going through it". What a way to wake up!

Shrapnel embedded in the side of the cottage-mostly little bits of bark.

I ran across one almost as bad as that. Pieces of shattered wood were 200 feet away. WoW! And climbing it involved avoiding punji stakes!

That is some lightning damage. I have seen a lot of lightning damage but none that compares to that.

Here's mine from a few years ago. Treebits all around in a 400 feet diameter circle.
This bang was heard as a distinct different bang even 9 miles away.

Tom , no it was down the road at a Catholic shrine/resort.

What do you suppose causes that kind of explosion? Excess water in the tree? or maybe just a VERY high voltage lightning strike?

I bet there is alot of water in the tree, which is instantly vaporized when the lightning excites all the water molecules.
