You ever served in the armed forces?

No, you ever worked in the burns unit of a large city hospital?

What is your point with this comment? Are you claiming authority over my opinions simply because you have served in the armed forces?

I think we're learning lesson two about how well western powers can battle and win against this threat.

Like the Jacobins of the French revolution and the Bolsheviks of the Russian revolution Al Qaeda acts on the apocalyptic belief that the human condition can be transformed by terror. This is a very western idea, so we surely have the ability to try and stem the flow of violence.

The Muslim fundamentalist threat is real, and like you say it can be strengthened by mistaken policies, but terrorist violence cannot be tolerated, despite this fact it unfortunately can never be eliminated.

It will continue and if you have a defeatist attitude they will gain power on a world wide scale.

So start supporting America and the Founding Fathers ideas of democracy. There is a lot to be proud of in America, don't give up on it.

Re: America \'s place in the world.

There is a lot to be proud of, and I tirelessly support the Founding Father's ideas of democracy, not the current executive's interpretation of them. And I used bloodshed, even my own, to exercise that right.

Burn unit? That takes patience, empathy and skill and I applaud you for it - have been in many wards myself, often as the patient and more so as a clinician.

I'm sorry but experience both personal and historical has shown that the might is right attitude has been only loss upon loss. The great nation we were is not the nation we've become. I'm hoping that the voter results of the last election would show that a majority of Americans feel the same way.
