equalizing thimble tab style?

hehe

Nick, I would totally do that but the ocean vectran prusik loop with the retrieval thimble is where the special sauce is.

Like whiz said I could get one but I'd have to knot it to keep it from being a crazy long loop for an end to end splice. Then I'd run the chance that the knots on the prusik may get stuck. If they sold the loop separately WITH the retrieval thimble I'd definitely make my own. They weren't born yesterday though. :)

With most of the Teufelberger stuff there's just one or two little well thought out things that make it worth the extra price. I've definitely stopped splicing as much as I used to and I partially blame them for having such good gear.

I have to agree with Kristian, you definately don't want to be bombing those stainless thimbles out the tree unless over grass, on my short one I noticed a nice pit after that mistake. I have both lengths, just like the pulley saver. Use them according to the treesize. Damn I have eight friction savers all adjustable and an assortment of styles and lengths and all have their place in my work.... Hey Ian a Happy New Year to you too....

Hell I love Teufelberger and their products, I trust my life on them and they are well thought out. I still climb mostly DdRT, which works best on the trees I climb down here...so DMM is my go to for products.... I don't mind paying for quality....

I emailed dmm about whether they planned to add a 12 mm sort of size SS thimble to their lineup in the future (they go up through 10 mm).

They replied that they could but did not know if there would be any demand for them.

I would buy a few for oldfart style whoopies, diy cambium savers, etc. I think there would be lots of interesting application, just iike there is currently for rings.

The bronze ones in that size are available these days through some of the arborist supply places, but SS takes the usefulness of the thimble to the next level in terms of durability and running rope.

But would anyone else have any interest in DMM SS thimbles bigger than 10mm? I don't mean through me, would be through the usual arborist supply sources.

If any interest, DMM could conceivably add that to their lineup.

I'd like to see a 10MM retrieval thimble and the retrieval thimble prusik available seperately or as a replacement part. That's probably wishful thinking on my part.

I do think it's cool that DMM responded to you so quickly. It's nice to see a manufacturer having dialogue with an end user.

Keep after 'em, BR. I'd love to see a 13mm thimble. DMM could do it up right.

The bronze is works great as a proof-of-concept. And I really have come to like that rig. But it can't deliver the wear characteristic of stainless, for sure.

But the idea is good: fast up and fast down for light rigging. So many times, I know a high rig set would be useful, but I didn't do it 'cuz of the hassle. I'd just muddle through. But with that Rigging Whoopie, I get it working fast. Makes stuff easier and you can do alot with a 100 kN.

Another possible idea, although not as good: I've looked into plating the casting with a wear layer, either Nickle (~55 Rockwell) or Hard Chrome (~65 Rockwell). The bronze surface polishes up really well, like a mirror. And the cost would be pretty nominal ($5ea) if we did a batch of 25-30 thimbles, even in mixed sizes.

I think Xman is really on to something -- thimbles work!

Adam,

Use the 10 mm for the 'fixed' thimble and use an 8mm thimble prussick with the tab, which I believe you already have, for the sliding ring..

Right? Or did I miss something?
