Epicondylitis

I have a high tolerance for pain, but this shit sucks. It hurt to get myself dressed today…. Can anyone recommend someone who’s selling well built echos?
Reading this makes me recall the pain….
Some relief from a two part kitchen sink.
Ice water in half, as cold as you can tolerate.
Hot water in the other half, as warm as you can tolerate.
X3 per day
elbows in for 5min per temp
Ending in warm, total time ~30 min.

I tried the compression bands, which had a little bubble to target the tendons. They didn’t help directly, but indirectly it was a reminder that my body is broken and not to over exert. Wearing a zip up or button up partly undone to use as a sling to rest the elbow whenever possible. Just don’t over do that as movement is good too.

When the inflammation is there, the most subtle thing can trigger a ‘setback’..

I’m glad you’ve found relief, and have somewhat recovered…. That gives me some hope!! Going to keep up with the rest, doing my exercises twice daily, and I’ve been incorporating a castor oil wrap I wear at night now too. Probably order a lighter weight echo saw in the next day or so as well.

Handled ascender

Wrist Rocket or some such named wrist-mounted ascender

Sharp sharp chain

The 2511t is going to be fine out of the box after a pre-used sharpen. Stock seem to be chattery.

Flushcut turned you on to a good builder who I'd definitely use.

2500t for sure. Pushbutton start.
1/4" conversion through arbsession.

I haven't tried a 150t (maybe 151t or 152t now). Might be about the same for about the same money.

If oak was your bread and butter, 'built" would be a big improvement.

Oh I forgot another item. Handwarmers! Cut the toes out of a sock and use it as a sleeve, roll up one of those single use hand warmers when working.
Hope a speedy recovery, the sooner you identify the trigger, and the sooner you rest up the faster the recovery process.
Out of necessity I didn’t, and at times I thought I was done and wouldn’t recover. If my memory serves right it was chronic pain for about 2 and half years. Sorry to the groundies about not piling brush with butts to the chipper just can’t do it anymore.

Other things I just can’t do anymore is progress climb ddrt, I can toss the tail up a bit, but can’t go for the long shot anymore. Same with hand throwing a throw ball. If I don’t make the shot in the first three throws or so I have to get the lower shot or switch to a bigshot.

I recently spent too long without gloves on a freezing day doing chores and when I went to wash my hands the warm water burned - it wasn't even warm. My hands turned pink. Triggered a memory of ice bath physio for a broken hand. They ice the cold water but have the "warm" at luke warm maybe just room temp - to avoid tissue damage. After physio I dipped into the warm bowl and it was actually cool feeling! But it felt burning during the procedure. The turning pink is vasodilation - enhanced blood flow being the objective - exercise the (presumably damaged) capillaries.

My wife just learned of elastic wrap tape KTtape that is bracing up lots of sore body joints on youtube.

So, I recently spoke with a fellow in length on the phone recently about my epicondylitis. It’s almost like he knew what I needed before I told him much of anything or we met in person… The brief roadmap I gave him, he could tell that my mobility in my thoracic spine was shit, which snowballs into my shoulder mobility going to shit, which is then putting unnecessary load into my wrists and elbows. He gave me some exercises/stretches to do that are also “tests” to narrow in on weaknesses/imbalances/impingements…. Within a day of doing these, I’ve noticed a tangible bump in my healing, and areas that are “stuck”. I finally feel like there’s a hope of healing from this. I meet with him Tuesday, and I’m confident my in person appointment will really solidify my path of recovery. If you have anyone in your area that does ROLFing, I suggest you look into them for any of your structural imperfections.

So glad to hear that optimism Chris!! I was similarly surprised when a therapist figured out that it was my piriformis that was so tight and weak that it was causing sometimes crippling back pain. I went to school to be a massage therapist, and was always curious to learn more about ROLFing, so do keep us posted!

How much do you use foot ascender when possible and how much pulling on the rope without a handle are you doing?

I tend my climbing line with my right hand out of habit. I try to consciously notice.
More the case, I step up on a fir ascender and slide my device up if not using a tender. Lifting rope weight to tend a hitch is extra work.

Getting into either wearing spurs or definitely putting on a footie helps me.

SRT is a huge help in my book.

I'm 52, btw.

I had never considered the tail weight when tending. You make an excellent point there and I will really examine this Monday on a huge hackberry removal I have lined up.

@Matias Rolfing is hard for me to describe, and I’m sure every practitioner is a bit different in their approach/es. I went to another ROLFer a few weeks back, it was like the deepest deep tissue massage ever, with a little bit of torture mixed in…. I’m talking discomfort/pain to the point where I was laughing uncontrollably (sick I know). It was a 2.5 hours of on the table work.
@southsoundtree I use my footie as much as possible, and am going to put one on my talons before springtime. What’s weird is I’m right handed, do the majority of everything with my right hand, but my left side is smoked….. I think a chronic slipped rib on my left side is what set this whole spiral in motion… that alone has been a long process of recovery.

Something that helped me with this same condition was prolozone therapy. Ozone injections near effected area that stimulate blood flow and healing. This and REST, definitely not squeezing tennis balls all day. I also notice a big difference (helpful) with wearing the elastic brace around elbow. Oh and also hydration and low sugar. I like to do semi regular fasts of 2-5 days and that always minimizes inflammation. Good luck!
