Englishman seeking advice on working is the US!

Hi, I have been thinking of trying to get work in the US for a while now, I have been an arborist in England for nearly 8 years now, i have various NPTC and LANTRA qualifications, I am a recently (within the last year) qualified climber. I have vast knowledge of groundwork, I have done commercial, domestic, powerline and railtrack work.

I know ive only given you a brief description of my background but i was wondering, Do you guys think it would be easy for me to obtain work in the US??

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance

Liam

We have had several exchange arborists from the UK work with us on a ten month basis I believe. If you are interested, I can get you more info, just send me a message.

I think anyone with some qualifications and a desire to work would have no problem getting work. Its hard to find people willing to work.

The company we worked with to get qualified tree climbers over to NC was called "ARB Climber Services"

The last correspondence I could find was from July 2005 (hope the info is still accurate)

tel - +44 (0) 1732 700806

email- arb@stitt.fsbusiness.co.uk

give that one a try.

We had mostly success with this company and I think we had 4 guys come over here through the years.

I came over here in 91 and thought that it would be hard to get work as I didnt have a green card. Within a few weeks I was working for some guys under the table. I would imagine if you came over in the spring you wouldnt miss a beat. If you need help getting hooked up pm me

Just gonna bump this to the top! I have spoke to some good people and got alot of good advice, which im very greatful for, Just wonderd if anyone else had any advice to give???

Thanks

Re: Englishman seeking advice on working is the US

Sounds like it should be no problem at all.

You may want to pick your climate though.

Honestly, if I was single, I'd be very curious about the Los Angeles area - say - starting all over again. Nice climate much of the year.

Pacific Northwest around Oregon is wetter in fall / winter, but with many more tall big evergreens in a lot of the state.

Georgia - say Atlanta - should have more humidity, more pines, possibly fire ants and chiggers.

East coast states can get much more snow than the west.

So pick your climate.

Re: Englishman seeking advice on working is the US

Good luck, when i moved locations from one state to another, i thought it would be hard finding work, specially cause i only had one year of climbing under my belt. All i did was look for certified company's in the area and called all of them. I got a call back the same day, and after one trial day i had a job. Was sad to leave my old company but the new one treats me just as well, ive been with them for a year now as well. Make sure you find good company's the hack's and fly by nighters are not worth joining.

Good luck i would say you'll be fine
