Excellent pictures.

why wouldn't you want to take heavy equipment over the border, is there alot of red tape, or just too far away, or what?

Why did you choose Freightliner and how do you like it?

Yes I've never looked into it but I'm sure the red tape and such would make a short term project like cleaning up a storm unprofitable.

This truck was an off the shelf unit, so we had to go with whatever truck it was on, though we usually do build from the ground up.

I like the freightliner so far.

For a bad storm like Sandy, I'm sure you could spend 2 weeks minimum, 3 or 4 not a stretch either. And if you were slow at home, it could be a very profitable situation.

I just got a new Freightliner 75' bucket, so far, I also like the Freightliner. Didn't know till later that they have the reputation of being on the low end of the quality spectrum. I'm told the things that drive you crazy will be problematic- doors, wipers, radiator, electrical stuff. Wish I had gone Pete or Kwhopper.

Nice rig James! Best of luck. Do you think that it is a 40t because of the chasis? How does Elliot compare with the National or Altec.... Anyone have an opinion?

I see you went to BIK again. Good choice

Well as far as comparing it to a national, if you lineup a picture of this one and a national 33ton you almost can't tell the difference!

I love how strong this thing is for it's size, I love that it has no tailswing from the counterweight, I love how slowly it booms down, but the worst thing about it is that it has a single stage hydraulic pump!!! who the hell builds a "crane" with a single stage pump?!?

this means that you're only supposed to do 1 operation at a time, which maybe sutable to something like a chipper, but not a crane where you are constantly doing 3 things at once like booming down, winching up, and swinging.

it would probably cost somewhere around $25K to upgrade this thing to a 3 stage pump and the proper control bank, which I guess is why the Elliotts are so much cheaper than the other brands.

And I'm not sure the reason its still rated as only a 40t, maybe with the extra boom length it can't reach the 6' radius so they just stuck with the 9' rating.

Very nice rig. We are running kboom's at the moment but are considering adding a 40t to are arsenal. Some instances a stick crane is the way other the knuckle try and have the best of both worlds.

Really nice rig James. I hope the Elliot serves you just as well as the Manitex did. Looks like it's going to be a little tougher to get into some of those tight properties, but I know you have one of the best ops on staff.
I see they put a set of stairs to get up on the deck. Did they install that just for Bill?

All the best.
