Do you know who makes these?

First of all I'd like to say hello to everyone here. I began looking for a forum such as this for my following question but it looks like there are alot of very knowledgable people here that I may be able to learn from. Anyway, a climber of mine has a pair of spikes that I have not seen before and he could't remember who made them. (Didn't take long to look at them, kinds busy) They have a red composite shank and a pivoting foot-bed on them the full size of you foot. The gaffs look to be klein. Is anyone familiar with these, know the manufacturer? and are the gaffs indeed klein replacements? Wish I had a digital camera to post up a pic. Definately different looking but extemely light. He is looking to sell them and if you can get replacement parts for them I might buy them.

these are the only climbers i can think of with red in them, they dont really match your description though....are you sure they're not modified?

Welcome to the Buzz.
Most likely they are Talon climbers....

Sherrills website sucks in that way. I guess I can see why maybe they'd not want anyone to be able to link directly to a page on their site (if I try real hard to come up with a real obscure reason), but every page is a result of a POST, not a GET, and you've got to enable javascript to get them to work or even though all the information has been sent (more than necessary, actually), it's not in HTML tags -- your javascript engine is supposed to create them on-the-fly. The absolute worst, if it could be worse than complicating everything via javascript and omitting plain HTML, is that you cannot open the desired page(s) in a separate window/tab so as to be able to flip back and forth between several at a time.

Sean, are you listening? You're sending too much data and it has to get sent every time, even though the page hasn't changed in months and a locally-cached copy would suffice. You could dramatically reduce your bandwidth charges if you used a better site design. Not to mention making things friendlier for your visitors using 56K modem technology.

You know how to get a hold of me.

That's them the Talons. Why do they suck Gypo? Are they weak, uncomfortable, pain in the ass? I went all through google trying to find some reviews or something more about these climbers but the only thing I could find was the karlk web site you refered to. If anyone has any opinion, fact or story about these Talon climbers post up. Thanks so far

I wore them for a day when I was out in Portland doing some training. The company there had them so I figured I'd try something new. I'd have to say that I agree with Butch here. I didn't like 'em very much. I only wore them once and it was enough for me to know that I wouldn't buy them.

few years back i watched some pole climbing championships on tv and the guys were wearing spikes which were mounted near the tips of the toes instead of the heel.
ive never seen these before, nor would i really want to work in a pair, im curious though where you can find them.
anyone know? or has anyone tried them?

As far as I am aware, competition pole climbing spurs are hand made just for competition. A few guys wear traditional gaffs, but the majority wear toe gaffs.

Steve, did you get yourself a pair of those geckos yet? I really like them although for soem reason they don't feel that positive on Ash trees. The first one I tried them one was dead and rock hard, but they are not much better on live ones either. (Takedowns only, before anyone gets upset by the term live)

Gypo, I'll try andf get a picture. A friend of mine is a champ pole climber and he uses home made toe spikes, with shimano spd shoes built in. The shank is made out of some shock absorbers from the back door of an old hatchback car.

Here you are, not quite what I imagined, I think that the shock absorbers here might not be from a car door but somehting else similar.
