Dmm small block

I’m loving the new small DMM impact Block. We put it to use today on a complicated removal that was over a house with lots of windows and sky lights, where the landing zone was close to none. We only had Two feet on left side of the tree, one foot behind tree, two feet on right side and 8 feet in front. I love the round edges on and smooth bushing, runs nice!

Thanks for the review...

I need to spend (just a little!) money before the close of 2011 tax year. A DMM small block is on my list.

I have been dreaming of one all year...

Well Unatool I also recommend this block, it's the one I used in the mango tree removal last week ( thread I posted in Rigging section ) where the LZ was super small and it performed superbly. Wanted to buy large block this xmas but choose the treemotion saddle and rope wrench instead so next heavy removal for sure. Dem blocks for sure wukkin. Paul.

I am going to get it... :)

Small DMM = 4,500 WLL rating
-my 3/4" loopie sling = 3,360 WLL
-my 5/8 Stable Braid = 3,300 WLL

I figure the block will not break!

p.s - TH, I hope this 'small' block does it for me. The 'BIG' block is rated @ 6,750 lb safe working load. Whew!

Good to hear you like it that much...

My eyes keep scanning down to the ISC for $100 less. New block is high on my list these days - the others have been around 6 to 10 years.

Go DMM, won't look back

unatool,
The small block has a WLL of 40kN ~9,000 lbs.
Large block is 60kN ~13,500 lbs.

I imagine you are getting the point across that the block will see potentially double the force of the load, hence the 4,500 and 6,750 numbers. However, it is important to quote the actual WLL as the rope angles will always change based upon the particular configuration of the block.

Also, just a reminder to us all, we need to keep in mind that a WLL is calculated for static load and dynamic load. Neither the static nor dynamic load on the block should exceed the WLL.

Taylor. I was just playing around with the kn to lb conversion. Am I correct that the design factor is 5 to 1. 45000lb / 9000lb. = 5 . I think unatool was thinking 10 to 1. 45000/4500 = 10?

Who the hell you Booing dude?
EZ Boo too you too BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO.
Seems moderator removed it just when it was getting scrappy, some big guns going at it, something about that thread wild and outta control.

Sorry to derail, but hey wait a minute only egos get hurt in a computer forum it ain't blood and guts like cage fighting or nothing as long as we play nice I guess. Boo again.

I'm sure the small block is nice too.

Love the large block, bought one around Sept maybe.

Thought the hole might come in handy and we've used the hole for more applications then I thought we would.

Here is a picture from us pulling over a real nasty back leaning and side leaning tulip tree all at once, leaned over neighbors shed and side lean toward another neighbor.

main anchor tree was huge diameter and it was nice to add the second block right to the hole instead another huge sling around that tree again.

i added some color to the picture for clarity on what is going on.

another picture, different situation, we wanted to pull over an uprooted leaning tall tulip tree using grcs.

figured grcs would not be able to pull enough, so set up 3 blocks to add some more advantange.

well, pulling line wasn't quite long enough to make it to grcs through all 3 blocks with us pulling slack out by hand.

so, added a short peice of rope with eye (that we use for a spider leg on rope rigging) and attached that to the pulling rope, pulling rope temporarily went directly to grcs after the dmm. the prussic was advanced as the grcs pulled, the prussic held the pull rope and we had enough to run through all three blocks now.

the eye just was nice to attach prussic rope to it, kept it out of the way better maybe.

setting up for initial temp pull

after we had enough rope from the temporary pull. we left the pussic in place, block advanced it on it's own.

now I must say, the isc yellow blocks have been great, been using them for many many years now. always made sure block was not set up to push the quick release in and there was never a close call or failure of an isc block.

the ISC surely is much faster to put a rope in it.

The DMM is just so darn good looking I had to buy one.

I get burned out and tired of things, one way to perk up is buying new expensive cool gear, makes things more interesing again for a little while.
