DMM Impact blocks

I have the small and love it, they can take a beating. Much more durable than some of the others and higher breaking strengths too. I seriously doubt i'll ever have to buy another block

We lifted a fairly hefty oak log last fall with the GRCS. Had two blocks up in the tree, a CMI and an impact. The way the blocks were positioned made that the rope came out on weird angles. I figured no biggie, but he CMI almost cut through the rope,no joke, it was down to the core. I still have the rope somewhere, i could snap a quick shot.

I second that-I've also seen a cmi cut through a rope, DMM blocks are nice and rope friendly

OK here is a topic I know absolutely nothing about.
That’s a great intro to my comments …………

A couple years ago, I overheard a conversation with N. Hall regarding a scratch on Whiz’s “brand” new DMM (???) block.

I have very good “microscope” eyes, and would guess that it was ~0.001 to 0.002” deep, w/ a very, very small burr.

I saw it, and would then never have considered it a problem.
They discussed the need to polish the scratch.
Whiz was going to polish, & then carry the block in a separate, very clean pouch.

Perhaps there are other problems, in addition to block design ?
Maybe this should be a different post ?

Used my olde faithful CMI block as a redirect / fairlead while winching a maple over this week.
Stainless steel side plate or the edge of the sheave munched on the line. (Fortunately within 30' of the end of the 180' rope.) Noticed this sadness afterwards.
Why I didn't use an Xring lanyard (which was available and close by) was a purely regrettable oversight, but have not previously encountered much rope grief like this before.
It was as good an impetus as any to order a DMM block, which was done about 1o minutes ago!

We use many brands never had one damage rope in 15 yrs, make sure everything is lined up before loading ... have big dmm smooth edges are nice and it is probably the best pulley on market

I can see that I guess. The Cmi blocks aren't too textile friendly, but in however many years I have been using them, I have never had that happen. I have been concerned about it a time or two though. I guess I should probably ante up before it does happen.

I got the small DMM, have had CMI's which I did not particularly like except they are light...have ISC too.....but I intend to order a big DMM block next week...have had the small since 2011 and it is such a sweet block....unimaginably rope friendly...
