Hi everybody .
Here again with a DIY gear tutorial.
Pretty simple one , but I haven't found anything like it on the web , so here I am to make my contribution
The idea behind was to make a heavy duty rigging sling on the style of the rigging rings but for a fraction of the price , all togheter with the 3T sling costed me 15 AUD.
Is quite self explenatory , the elastic rope while is stopping the pin from screwing off is also snagging the sling on the shackle so it doesn't spin around .
I quite like it better then the rigging ring becouse there is no splicing required and is more wear resistent since is steel instead of alloy , also can be opened in case of you want to reposition the rig without re-doing the knots on the rigging line.
Can be quite heavy but I just bring it up when i need it , also some of those expensive blocks are heavy too.

Nice, been using shackles before the antal rings made it into the arb world. They're still my preference for vertical speedlining. The only disadvantages are weight, bend radius (there are some more rope friendly options out there), and heat dissipation.
Check these spring pin ones out. Been eyeing some for crane work.

Nice , they're way cheaper than the x-ring one ( and basically the same thing) I'll keep that in mind if I want a lighter rig.

ALways good to have a few around, especially for bucket rigging where its just a lot easier to set and remove redirects... I go even cheaper, just use a short piece of line as a sling..

Riggs showed me shackles that he'd used for a long time. Some had grooves worn in them. All we're polished from use

To increase the bend ratio he'd cut the eyes off of one shackle and then weld it to another

That's a good trick, which I've seen as well, but not needed if you are using the shackle as a redirect, where the bend radius is controlled by rope angle, not diameter of the shackle... On most significant rigging jobs, I;ll keep at least one big block, one set of rings and one shackle on a short sling, and often combine all that with natural crotch redirects etc... Its a glorious new world.
