Ditch witch sk3000

I did a demo on a sk3000. I was really excited about this machine but it was sort of disappointing. Ditch witch missed the mark on it. It's very big but underpowered. It's a 59hp machine but really needs to be in the mid 60 range. Bogged down unloaded going up a modest hill. I have a sk1550 , which is an awesome machine, and I expected the sk3000 to be close to double what the 1550 because it's close to double the size. It isn't even close. I really don't think it's capacity is what they advertise either. It'll lift 3k pounds but the problem is that it needs a bigger grapple (600- 800 lb grapple) which takes away from it's lift capacity. It's also very expensive ( almost $80k for just the machine) .
Overall, I'm looking at a Giant wheel loader. I need a bigger machine with more capacity, but I really don't see the sk3000 being that much more capable than the 1550, especially at the price point. At the same price, I can get into a bigger Giant loader , which I can drive on lawns with turf tires, more speed, more lift, same hinge height . I guess the real advantage to the sk3000 is it's compact with 360 visibility, which is nice, but it's also less machine because there is no cab ext... Pound for pound, The sk1550 is a way more capable machine than the sk3000 .

Interesting I’ve never ran a sk3000 but really like the idea. I also have a 1550 and absolutely love it!
I would agree and would think a sk3000 should be double the machine as a sk1550 and very disappointing hearing your opinion!
And a Giant loader would be my second choice also! At least to demo and see if it’s what I’ve built them up in my own mind!

Thanks for sharing

Like the 1550, it's a heavy duty and well built machine. The yanmar motors are excellent as well. It just either needs a bigger engine or be a smaller machine. After sales tax, a couple of attachments and finance charges the machine will be over $100k. I just don't see the value in the machine at that price point.

What about a full size skid steer? Can get very reliable/cheaper with probably better warranty on ASV, Kubota, or Bobcat. You've already got the mini skid for the smaller stuff. I have a 1050 and a 1550. Next one I get will be just a full size skid. Prices are getting ridiculous and the regular full size skid steers are more competitively priced/can do a lot

We have a cat 287b it’s just to big and heavy when you can make a cut and the 1550 can take care of it

Only time we use a full size is for pushing the chipper around on islands. Rented a never run (3hrs?) Cat 259d3 last summer and it was dreamy. Can’t imagine using one for residential treework though. Bummer to hear the sk3000 was a letdown, sounds like the Giant/Avant is the way to go. EBC5EBE9-0B51-4069-9715-6D2DD108811B.png

Get the new Giant 2700 Tele! Lifts over 6.7k, but weight 5.9k, and has and has a 147” hinge pin height.

Our kilter 254 Tele has been amazing, but lifts about 2500 with the tires foam filled and the counterweight kit.
