Dip-it Whip-it vs. paint on electrical

Does anyone know if Dip-it Whip-it found here http://www.wesspur.com/rope/tools.html is the same as the generic paint on electrical tape found at local hardware stores?

I am mainly trying to figure out if the paint on electrical tape from the harware store will be safe to use on ropes.
I believe the product name is "paint on electrical tape"

thanks.

I've heard it's roughly the same but don't know for sure. I know some people do use 'liquid electrical tape'. I can't find it around here.

I like Maxi-jacket. You can get 8oz bottles in lots of colors from Knot and Rope Supply.

This is the paint on 'liquid tape' I've been using. Got the green light to use it on rope fiber from Samson Rope. I get it at Home Depot for $6.

Left bottle is the new package (black liquid)
Right bottle is the old package (green liquid)

Ive got WIDI and it's tough and stinks to high heaven. Strictly outdoor application. I have red, which I wouldn't recommend as it looks like you bled all over the rope. Haven't used the liquid e tape or Maxi Jacket,.

I used WIDI on some eyes and was very surprised to find that the stuff gets pretty solid and stiff. I didn't like that at all for the eyes.

Never did get at chance to use it any other way though. Apparently I didn't close the can tight enough and the stuff dried out on me.

I've used liquid tape, both brush-on and spray-on with pretty decent results. it remains somewhat flexible and doesn't peel. Though it does have a heavy solvent smell.
