dead 372 XP rebuild

One of our 372Xp died, saw shop would only give $50 for it, it's now in our shop as a parts saw. It's 8 years old. I am thinking about trying to buy it from my boss and finding a big bore kit for it. Which kits are better and anybody know anybody on TREEBUZZ that rebuils saws and tunes them up(muffler mods, carb adjustment).

I would find out what killed it before putting a new top end on it. Was it a crank seal leak, carb being set to lean or just op error and straight gassed it?

I like OEM personally and you have two choices the 70.7cc or 74.6cc. The aftermarket BB is 76cc.

I gotta find out more about it being "dead". I KNOW it was not run on straight gas. Last time it ran, I was using it, it would cut fine then die out. It would start back up OK but was a PITA to use it, that was 8 months ago, I just always grabs the 385 instead, it was easy to get out of the truck anyway.
I picjked up a new to me saw today at a yard sale, a Disston d0101, couldn't find the bar though, I may go back top the house tomorrow with boots on instead of sandals and bring a flashlight. I descibed what the bar looked like to the lady and she said she had seen it around, just wasn't sure where

Saw shop said it was dead, it's a reputable shop where most local tree guys go. I would assume they wouldn't miss a bad coil. I was suprised when I was told the saw was dead since it ran ok except for stalling, no weird/bad noises, it's not seized.

Shop said they looked in the cylinder, it was scored and had low compression and stopped at that.

If you decide to sale and not rebuild it, PM me.

Chances are, the cylinder is fine. Dismantle the saw, check it for any scratches in the surface. What look like scratches are usually transferred aluminum from the piston, which can be cleaned up with muriatic acid. Replace the piston and you may be good to go.

But, as was pointed out above, the seals and bearing need to be checked, as does the cylinder to be sure it is within tolerances, not out of round, etc.
