Daisy chains

Not sure if this is the best category for the question but here goes...

I'm still looking for that elusive extendable lanyard for connecting my hitch to my saddle and am thinking a daisy chain type setup might do what I want.

In looking at sewn daisy chains the mid loops are rated at less than 4k while the end for end on the whole loop is 6k or better.

What sort of decline in strength would the loops and end-for-end be like if I took a runner and threw a couple knots into the runner making a mid eye?

Anyone seen any testing for runners with knots?

Thanks!

Rick,

Do a search at rockclimbing.com

I've found a lot of useful info there. Since there are many rockclimbers who are also engineers they can do some unique tests in the labs where they work.

Back in Oct. 2011, I e-mailed some pics & text to Bluewater regarding their BlueWater Titan runners (Dyneema). Specifically the strength reduction w/ a Figure-8, girth hitch, & a 4 coil prussic. I was trying to rig a backup system for a hand ascender.

They didn't know the answers to my questions in my specific application.
So ............. they ran some tests & sent the results to me.

They pulled the runner, w/ a mid-line Fig-8, end-to-end. It broke at the knot at 4475 lbf.

They also pulled on the Fig-8, simulating a biner attachment.
The knot actually increases the 'biner radius so they got sling failure at the stitching at 6300+ lbf.

Very gracious effort !
