cutting rope

OLFA utility knife. Replacement blades are priced well. A spot to tether if it needs to go in the tree and bright yellow. Takes a flame really well to if you like to hot knife it first. Tape rope up first with good ol hockey tape, can't be beat.

I use a pair of nice fiskar scissors I picked up at home depot, seem to do real well with what Ive.used them for so far. Hrc seemed to slow them down a bit but still made a clean cut. That's about the most rugged stuff I've cut with them so far though.

I like utility knives for cutting whole rope, Even Kevlar cuts easy if it's stretched tight.

For trimming... My daughter goes through scissors like crazy, loses or dulls them with paper. So I just buy $10 Fiskars, use them to trim up splices and whipping till they get a little dull, buy new ones and give her the old ones.

I only splice for myself and a couple of friends though so I don't cut much rope.

Check these out. The're made to cut aramid fibers. Think large sheets of kevlar sailcloth. The brand name is Kai and the model # is 7240-AS

My top two choices are either a ceramic knife that I've had for several years and sharpened once or ARS craft scissors designed for aramids as a couple of guys have already shared.

I used to use a utility knife. It made clean cuts but I was going through blades like crazy so I quit and moved to ceramic and have never looked back!
