cut that cable!

Personally I'm a big fan of manual ratcheting cable cutters. Easy operation in the tree, with no need to brace yourself, and they cut the cable by compressing from all sides, so that the cut end stays together and threads easily if you're using end pieces into which the cable must be threaded. They're a real game-changer in terms of ease of use. I bought a set made by Baudat in Germany. They're not cheap, but they're worth every penny.

If you go to Saluting Branches I'd like to try a cut. My angle grinder is great, but melts the wires together just a tad and is obviously more dangerous/complex/heavy than your Baudat.

What model is the Baudet you use? I looked on their website and it wasn't very straight forward in terms of materials and diameters. Where did you get it?

I use a model HSC22. I got lucky and purchased it for a song on Ebay. Having said that, if I ever lost it, I'd buy another one immediately. I think it's designed to be a small but effective cable cutter that a single offshore sailor could use to quickly cut guy wire cables to a mast in the event of a breakage.

After I bought mine I contacted Baudat to inquire about purchasing replacement parts. I recall they said that the HSC22 model had been retired and replaced with another. This looks like the replacement model: https://www.s3i.co.uk/baudat-wire-cutter-HCS22.php

We use a 20vmax dewalt angle grinder with thin cutting blade. It allows me to drag one battery, the drill and grinder for multiple uses. I can cut the cable, cut the bolts shorter and drill the holes. It cuts down on how many tools I have in the tree by using one for two requirements and one battery for 3 operations (you can’t be cheap and use the cheap battery for this).
We are using standard EHS cabling with dead ends (when steel is required).
