Crane Certifications and Schools

Hello Everyone!

We are looking to get a few of us Certified as Crane Operators, and I am wondering if there are any work-arounds or other easy options for crane schools. I would love to find something we could do as a self study or home study, so we can stay in town and not have to travel for the qualification process.

Thanks!!

Some states allow using cranes solely for tree work without licensure, but getting up on certs is never a bad idea. Maybe you can start with your state’s requirements, if any, and go through your Department of Labor and Training program. Maybe see if you can get something going there first and then look into NCCCO and such.

I wanna get my nccco

If you want to go NCCCO.......order the book, study and take the online test at a computer based testing center. You can find a practical testing center through NCCCO also, I did mine in West Virginia. Took the test, both written and practical and saved thousands of dollars by not sitting in a class teaching me how to pass the test. I can;t speak for what others mentioned since I did all mine on my own. Was pretty not complicated. I would still encourage training by a seasoned operator regardless of the certification. Testing on your own ok.........teaching yourself how to operate....not so much.

Thanks yall. I've been operating for years, but now that I have my own crane, my insurance company wants me to have the certification. So, I need to start the process of getting certified, and the schools are all super expensive and out of my region. Steve, I would love to know how you found the location to take your test and where you found the study materials!
