CRANE!! AM I DREAMING?

Rear mount, out and downs, 118'. Not sure of jlg reputation or what the chart looks like but thats a sweet setup.i wonder what engine it has? You should check that one out for sure royce. Hell a new chipper cost more than 65k

What Treevet, AborMan and Stumper120 said! WAY better machine than that AT422. I ran a 17 ton JLG for a while and don't have anything bad to say about them.

Yeah, I looked at some of the jobs I would use it on and I need a 100 foot of stick or more. It just doesn't make sense to not have that reach for what we do. I would just be over loading a smaller crane. I have to wait a few weeks until I get a few of these big job I am on finished up. Plus, we spent 145,ooo on equipment last year. I need a few months of not buying stuff to settle my accounts.

If that had a enclosed swing cab I'd be on my way there now, lol. Want a good deal on a little grove? Get in the crane buis for 25k

That will be long gone by then (if like said above...it had a decent size engine in it) if you wait. A person can get loan poor tho. Delicate balance there.

So tomorrow I am going to look at a 2000 Terex Dino 2500 23.5 ton crane. 92 feet of live boom, with a jib that I am not too sure of the length. This is a boom truck. It is not rear mounted.
So, there is no front outrigger on it. That is kinda a negative, but can I add one? Also, the LMI is not working. Like it was ripped off several years ago and never replaced. This company has two cranes and this one was their back-up crane and it has seen very little use.
I would really like 360 degree work area and I will not operate it with out the LMI. So I will have to do these things if I purchase it.
Any companies close to Vermont that can do these for me? I know there is a terx dealer in Worcester, Ma. Not sure if they would work on a crane. I think they might be strictly buckets.

The LMI can be around $5000 so I've heard. A front outrigger can be added but needs plumbing and mounting. The dino line is the giuffre bros twist on terex lines if I'm not mistaken.

Yeah, this crane was purchased from Giuffre used but was the second owner. 5K doesn't seam too bad, I just want to work that into the negotiations. Now once the front outrigger is installed will it allow you 360 degree work area?

I believe only if it's programmed into the LMI, and I have no idea if that's doable. If it was never set up for 360°, just replacing the LMI won't get you there. Besides, since it's a behind-the-can mount with stand up controls, how would you see over your shoulder and over the cab to work in front of the truck?

I've heard good things about Giuffre. Since they built it, call them up and see what you can learn.

Thanks Jeff, I am looking at the crane tomorrow and then plan to call Giuffre about the LMI and anything else that pops up on the inspection. So, in your opinion is not having the front stabilizer and never operating over the front a a HUGE disadvantage? I mean, I know 360 would be great but can I get by with out it for a few years? Better than nothing??

I both ran and climbed from a behind-the-cab mount, 17 ton boom truck with 85' of boom for several years and we did a lot of tree work with that truck! I've heard others on here say the same thing: Moving from no crane to something such as this is still a huge step up. If everything on this machine checks out, and the price is right, go for it. Run it, do what you can with it. Learn from it. If it's not what you want sell it. As long as you don't overpay for it, you'll get your money back.

Yes, more height and capacity is always great, no matter how much of both you already have. Follow that logic too far, though, and you'll never get a crane because you'll convince yourself you need a 200 ton machine with 400' of stick and you'll never be able to afford the $5 million price tag.

That is sound advice. I appreciate it. I will let you know how it goes. I will also take some pictures of the machine.

I am still negotiating with the owner. I couldn't take pictures as he is not actively trying to sell it yet. He is basically giving me first dibs.
Truck is a 2000 peter built with 68,000 miles. In real good shape. Fires right up, no smoke. jake brake, really is a nice looking truck.

Crane is a 25 ton Dino by Terex or Giuffre. Bought brand new in 2000. This owner is the first and only owner. Has passed recent boom inspection. 92 feet of live boom, has a jib as well. Jib is not mounted. Does not have front outrigger or LMI.
Owner of crane wants 80,000. He is offering to hold the note for 4 years for me. I offered him 70,000 he fixes the LMI. We are at a stand still. I called Giuffre to get an idea of what it is worth, no one has called me back. Honestly I think it might be worth what he's asking. I would not take the crane until July 1st.

I am 7.5 weeks booked out right now. We are in the midst of a severe wind storm and I am hoping the phone dosnt ring because I have too much work as it is. This crane would speed up production 10 fold and allow us to shorten that back log. I am just not sure about spending that kinda doe. Plus, I am researching insurance costs for it.

Those crane smart LMI's. Anyone have any experienced with them? It looks like they are wireless? Have a battery that sends a signal back from the crane tip to the computer. Seams like a fairly simple installation. Or am I reading something wrong.
