Thanks you much for explaining about the rope placement .Nice work. Palms are fun. Lots of movement.
Sean, I usually stack my rope cleanly to my rear right. (I'm right handed, so my left side is towards the trew.) Not exactly "behind" me. The bend the rope would take from a stack in front of you, around your hand, and towards the brake at the base of the tree adds friction and reduces precision in running the rope. My preference is to have as much of the friction isolated to the brake or in the canopy and my hands just do the control.
Of course rope behind you that could wrap you would be a hazard, but that's not what I'm suggesting.

Hmm, could be, I see what your saying with the foliage, but then I would ask @Travor why the stubs? What is it Travor?Palms? That is an Araucaria.
Stubs because I used hand saw going up . Less energy then flushing every stub with my 201 . Limbs snap of easy with a touch of a silky handsaw. It was a monkey puzzle , not a palm.Hmm, could be, I see what your saying with the foliage, but then I would ask @Travor why the stubs? What is it Travor?
I've just always called them monkey puzzle trees .. thanks for the infoThat is not a monkey puzzle Araucaria araucana. I think is might be A. heterophylla (especially if Clearwater is in Florida)
