Coronet Pruning and other Wildlife Habitat Incorporation

I don’t know my birds to that detail, but there is a population that inhabits an old school boiler chimney in PDX during their migration. It’s a quite the gory show with all the drunk punks cheering loudly when the kestrels and falcons grab a sunset snack, and the birders cracking their knuckles..
The chimney was supposed to be demolished but outcry protected it.

Then again I can further f up this conversation.

7 years ago, my saw skills were not fantastic but we were having a hell of a good time making this snag for an artist customer. The opposite of a natural looking wildlife snag, wildlife moved in nevertheless over time.

We had finished a technical/sketchy (remainder of codom leader tear out) big white pine removal 5' from her house, this was our exhale to celebrate our success getting it done well and safely.

That hatchet toss was pretty sweet dude!

Cool to see this thread pop back up from when I was nerding out heavily on this stuff. Here’s one I did at my parents place from now 5 years ago on a Cottonwood that lost a lead due to a canker. There has since been a fair amount of epicormics around the bird house which I need to go clean up.

Are they dirty, or strengthening the outer edge of the tree, increasing longevity?
