Cornell Tree Climbing in Borneo

Good day everyone,

Just a quick post of a video from our recent expedition to Borneo. Cornell Tree Climbing went along too support the Cornell Lab or Ornithology's research in Malaysia. Cornell supports canopy research around the world, from seed collection in the Redwoods to hemlock woolly adelgid research in eastern forests.

Hi, Mark. I see you have 8 posts thus far, and although I missed 1-7, welcome to the Buzz anyway!

I've seen your video contributions on YouTube in the past. You all did a great job demonstrating a variety of techniques. I especially liked the endless loop system, allowing a climber to be lowered.

Canopy research must be a truly rewarding excuse for climbing large trees. I'd love to hear more about the Adelgid research.

Thanks for posting!

Absolutely! Mark I can appreciate your appreciation for trees. Look forward to the next video. What type of rope access tool are you using, type of line/weight?

Thanks for the kind words, everyone. We use a variety of line launching systems. We're using as BigShot with Zing It or Fling It with eastern trees and shorter tropical trees. For bigger trees we use a BigShot with mounted fishing reel (Berleley Fireline and Scottshot bags) or a 150lb crossbow with blank bowfishing arrows (also fishing reel with Berkeley Fireline).
