conceal carry permit

get pit bulls or german shepards or dobermans or rottweilers and keep em in the yard. We are always leaving machinery at different properties doing line clearance and one time we asked this guy if we could leave our mower at his place...he said it would be fine and that he would chain his dog to it to keep it safe. We laughed and said that wouldn't be necessary but the next morning we had to wait for that guy to come and get his dog away from the machine so we could use it.

Also, I support conceal carry but we dont have it in IL...I'm curious what it says about using non-lethal ammo like rubber bullets and what not. I would keep a shotgun full of non lethal ammo and lay in wait at the shop

I was working with a friend of mine's dad in New Orleans after Katrina hit building decks for FEMA trailers and someone came to his house stealing his lumber. He walked ouside put his Beretta to the looters head and politely asked him to unload his truck and restack the wood. About an hour later he returned with the police. After we explained what happened the looter went to jail. The cop called him a dumbass and said he would have shot him and then dialed 911and got away with it bcus of Marshall Law!

The wild west...those must have been the days. Its still a hanging offense to steal a mans horse in Tn. We had a guy here in town that stole some horses and the judge joked about bringing the gallows out.

Cops aren't what they use to be. Not enough Walker Texas Rangers!

I believe the schutzhund trained dobermans are amazing. Might be a bit pricey. Also check with local authorities they are banned in some places and only you can be the handler. I'm pretty sure you have to have several highly visible signs in place stating you have an attack dog on premises to avoid lawsuits. Even though the are expensive so is your business and equipment.

Dan didn't say it, I did. And you have to be honest with yourself. I cast a pretty big shadow, but I'm not invincible. Carrying concealed does leave the opportunity for them to not know it's there to use on you in the first place.

rbc, no kidding; I'd probably worry more about being bitten by one of them than anything. That's a long, nasty death, right there.

Now, the home is an entirely different matter. Like most people, if someone breaks into my house, I'm going to assume they mean me or my family harm, and respond accordingly. And the law is pretty clear on that.

Your frustration is understandable. We work hard for a living, and expect others to do the same. Our equipment is purchased at the expense of our blood, sweat, and toil.

Thankfully, I live in an area where such things haven't become a problem, yet. But the real frustration is when you DO catch one, and they're out on bail before you even get back to your house.

rbc, despite pop culture, the "Wild West" wasn't really all that wild, by comparison. An armed society is indeed a polite society. ;)

The tazers are probably a good idea but the cops on television seem to have gone back to pepper spray and probably for liability. Couple of bad guys had heart attacks here doing crimes and tazered. One died. I think the bad guy seldom dies when an encounter with a ccw holder. The pepper spray seems like a 2 man deal to subdue and apprehend mostly.

As for the dogs we will likely get them on the new property not yet occupied but it is half in a residential neighborhood and to have them barking at deer or the constant stream of kids and men that cross the tracks to go from the ghetto to the store and back and the pool and back is probably gonna be an issue we will get in trouble for. Could have got a safer location but then the cost for the size of lot I got would have been huge and the nearness gone. A real good business friend of mine have known for years lives directly across the street from new lot and we are gonna watch out for each other. He has a couple of pits.

I searched highly trained dogs and they tend to run in the 10 to 20k range and it is common knowledge if the bad guys toss some poisoned meat into the dogs they become no threat. Guess you would want to take them home at night but then you have eliminated the purpose you bought them for.

Carrying a weapon into a confrontation always leave the possibility of it being used on you, which is something you must consider in the when/where you carry category.

If they use my gun on me they will have to beat me with it because it will be empty by the time they get to me.

post signs that they are on hidden carmeras . it doesnt matter if you have them or not. if they think you do they may think twice . post beware of dogs signs . no trespassing sign . make it known that no one should be there that is not supposed to be . that will give you more weight for the cops to use against the offenders . fence the property in . do what ever you have to . i use to have a sign in my front yard saying the home has a alarm system on it . it really did not have one but people on our block got broke into but we never did . it is a proven fact that most will skip over a place that says they have a alarm on it . they want a easy catch . fake them out . if you catch anybody kick there as* and call the police . i really do not think you need a weapon . it never hurts to have non lethal weapons though just in case . hide out there on some nights if you feel like it . make it look like somebody is there .leave a light on in the garage . put timers on the lights so they can change and never have the same light on all the time . be dilegent . it is not brain surgery dude just do what you have to do !!!

Yes the dogs are really pricey...my buddys dad had some and he said they wouldn't take food from anyone except him. I'm not passing up a t-bone thrown at me. I find it hard to believe a dog would pass up some meat either. I do know that I couldn't come inside the fence unless he was there with me. And watching those dogs walk the perimeter was cool. You would never hear or see those dogs til it was too late. From what I understand those dogs are trained to recognize people with bad intentions. There sixth sense his a phenomenon to us. Just how the can sense fear or everytime my girlfriends daughter is about to have a seizure.

Most thieves are opportunists..they see something they can make a quick buck on and grab it. Some however are highly intelligent and methodical. The needle junkies don't really like to have to work hard to steal. I can see your concern with that kinda investment though. Pack of rat poison and some hotdogs no more dog.

The real issue is the market for stolen goods. Of course pawn shops and the like buy stuff but your competition has probably got some of your saws. If people wouldn't buy stuff thats hot then there wouldn't be a market for it. Hard to pass up a 200t for 50 bucks though.

Friend of mine has had his 200t stolen before and found it advertised on craigslist. Hard to mistake a 200t with no chainbrake. I browse craigslist daily. Might be a good start. You might get lucky!

When they found the scumbags that stole my tools, the tools were already in Brazil. That's right Brazil. This guy was buying tools off the street and sending them to his tool rental company in Brazil. By the time the police were onto him he had admitted to sending five containers to Brazil full of tools. He was deported and that, so far, is the end of it. I searched Craigslist for months. You'll drive yourself nuts.

Chain link the yard with signs and random lights is probably the easiest way out of it.

I understand defending yourself and family but is your stuff really worth killing someone for? I know mine isn't. I understand the frustration of having your stuff taken but killing someone for it???? It seems like the punishment doesn't fit the crime. I'm all for guns by the way.

Personally, I would only use my sidearm if my or my family's lives were threatened, and it would really have to be threatened. But like Mark said, he/she wouldn't have the chance to use mt own gun on me.

For a year and a half in VNam always had a m-16 with my name on it and a 45 I "acquired", had a m 79 grenade launcher often and occasionally had an m 60 machine gun. Never shot anybody and besides the enemy had more than my share of fights and twice had a straight razor once a knife, once a rifle butt, and once a railroad spike pointed at me. I think I will know if or when to use it and have absolutely no desire to kill anybody but rather to stay alive myself. Getting a little like a war zone around here. No exaggeration believe me. For some reason I get much calmer in situations like this.

You got NO clue bubba. You gonna sleep there all night every night? That is what it would take cause there are so many of them. Like said, last one was broad daylight on the job 2 weeks ago and cost a ms200 and blower. One before that 2 months ago cost 1 grand in broken window glass plus what they got inside. We are moving soon but likely new lot will have the same challenges.

I think if they move the Section 8 housing back to Projects inner city THEN...MAYBE...it will subside.

Where is your equipment kept? On your residence property? I got way too much to do that and it is illegal as well.

all my gear and equipment is kept on my property . i live on 130 acres . my closest neighbor is not real close to me . down the road a little ways . i have a large barn i keep alot of stuff in there . it is not illegal to keep my equipment on my land .if you live in a really residencial place which it sounds like you do .i totally understand because that is where i lived before and that is why i MOVED OUTTA THERE . i always had to find a place to keep my machines and street sweeping sucked i always got tickets . i lived in a small town not to far from the burgh . setion 8 housing was there and as i was moving they were putting more section 8 in . not the kind of people i want to live around . a guy overdosed on heroin in his car near my house, neighbors home got broke into 10:oo am, old lady got stubbed in the afternoon walking home in the afternoon one day and they stole her purse .trust me i know what you are saying i lived there my whole life . lots of crime and drugs and the police were of no help and they were under investigations by the fbi for all kinds of stuff . the town got a large grant to clean up the town and the politishions pocketed the money .this town is f*cked .that is why i live where i live now . yes i have a little bit of a longer drive to get to my jobs sometimes but i live with peace of mind now. i am not saying hide there every night .who has time to do that all the time . i just meant sometimes if you can . you are just going to have to figure it out bro . it can be as easy or as complex as you want it to be . i am very close to the ohio border if you have large pieces of equipment you are welcome to store some on my land if you like . my friend who is from ohio comes out and works with us from time to time he said it only takes him about a half hour to get here from where he is coming from . the farmers who lease some of the land are also from ohio . wish you luck and hope you figure it out bro peace .
