Perhaps it's local, perhaps it's not, but many people I've talked to wish more folks were given more guidance prior to climbing competition events. Often, volunteers learn the ropes, trial by fire. The event is on and happening, the shirts are ordered and insurance paid for, and everyone is on point to make the event go smoothly to the best of their abilities.
Wouldn't it be nice to have a long weekend workshop on how to run events? How to set up a good event, a great work climb or a challenging aerial rescue?! Talk about rule changes, scoring intricacies, and talk about how many volunteers are needed to run scores, how to score and how to run the scoring software?
Would people be interested in such an event as a workshop or perhaps a in depth camping weekend with a mock-up competition? We are thinking of holding something like this in North Carolina, and I am putting out the feelers to see who may be interested. My impression is there is a gap forming between the folks who ran a lot of our tree climbing competition events in the past, and I feel like it would be good to have more opportunities for people to come together and learn.
I'd love to hear everyone's thoughts. We have a venue. We just need to create the time and fine tune the intention. Thank you!
