Carabiner care:

- wash in hot soapy (Dawn, sunlight) water and work the biner mechanism back and forth to loosen crud. Rinse well with hot water, blast dry with canned air or air compressor.

- use silicone spray to lube the carabiner gate mechanism. Spray liberally , (while biner is still warm from the hot water rinse) and work the mechanism back and forth. dry with soft cotton towel. Pine pitch will no longer stick the inner working bits of the biner, nor will the biner attract dust, dirt or grit. lasts about a month under daily use.

For biners that are already covered in pitch, soak in kerosene or varsol overnight, then scrub with a brass wire brush. Wash and clean as directed above, then relube.

I actually work for Bartlett and they said that they have issues with the bridge since it has to be tied. Well I told them that I could just splice one on and they told me that there was other issues with it. I don't see what the big deal is. It's rated for international competition and we now have guys climbing in helmets that don't meet the new competition standards.

This is a typical RFM statement. I have never bought a harness that had such a comprehensive manual (Is that the correct way to tell that manufacturer made an effort to tell you all about the way to use the harness?).

All the details on how to use the harness are in there, including the specifications of the rope that should be used and the ONLY way to correctly tie the bridge. They even state that if you don't feel qualified to tie the knot than you should ask a person that can do it in the way as specified.

I think you should ask your supplier to send Bartlett a user manual so the office can do some RFM. This way they probably find out that it's probably the best documented harness on the face of the earth.

I know, I know, for most people that work in a 'constant having to solve a problem environment' it's very hard to get your mind to RFM.

I would have to go with the attitude that they (Bartlett) works for you. If they dont want you to use the gear you want to use, then fire them. It is a little different if they are paying for it. Then it is an issue of them not wanting to fork out 2x the money for a saddle maybe? it wont make you climb 2x as well.

which division are you working in, and what position is the person working in telling you, you can't use it. Im the safety director for our office, and if it meets the company standards, it meets the company standards. If you are unsatisfied with what someone is telling you, you can always move up the chain of command so to speak

I worked there and they told me I couldnt use a custom made saddle(made by Buckingham). After proving its construction and info from Buckingham I was able to use it.
Remember when you approach people about change to be prosessional and informed. Dont come across argumentative.

I worked with a crane for 5 years there. Thats pretty mechanical.I also used a microcender
