Company names: You could choose wrong

There are 2 companies that I have come across doing storm work. These companies do not sell residential work and are mainly involved in debris removal. These are real!

1) Big Lick Trucking
and their motto is: "Brush by day, Bush by night"
they have two grapple trucks. The owner is a nice guy who only does storm work. Oddly enough he owns an advertising agency in Virgina as his main job.

2) Log Hard

I have only seen this guys truck in passing, but the name is too much. He is logger as his main profession (I assume).

There is a local tree hack who is famous for telling people: "It's tree work, not free work". Funny enough I have been tempted to use this line a few times....

My nickname when i worked for the forest service was "handsome mike". I jokingly considered calling my company Handsome Mikes Tree Service. I envisioned a cartoon picture of my face on the side of the trucks. hahaha. i earned the nickname for insane facial hair and a penchant for attracting dirt.

there is a heating and AC company in town where I live, this past summer the sign out front of their building read, "Your wife is hot, we can help" it had a picture of that hot cartoon chick from the roger rabbit movie

There's a place near me called Mapleton. In Mapleton you can find the "Mapleton Cheese and Taxidermy Shop".

Apparently the cheese is quite good... I'll never know.

This is going to be interesting...

My companies name is Tree Wackers LLC. Why O why would you pick that, you ask.

1. I was ignorant to the aborist world 3 years ago when I started.
2. Not to interesting when 80% of companies are the founders name.

To me a name is just a name. It's the quality of work that shows who you are. I have minimal advertisement, most work is word of mouth. Granted, I'm not feeding my family with the business, but my clientele and income has been on the rise scince I started. Would I choose that name knowing what I know now? Probably not.

Also, the family joke on me is. I'm the head wacker. My son, who is 1, is a weed wacker. In a few years he will be a bush wacker. Then earning his rank as a Tree Wacker. Hope you get a chuckel.

This may be just nit picking by me, but I hate business names that try to sound tough or cool, or hard core. We have a small tree company locally called Wolf Claw tree service. I laugh everytime I hear the name or see them, which is rare. I expect to hear the name followed by my kid going " Wolf Claw, ROAAAAR! " Just sounds so cheesy to me. some of my buddies think it wounds funny too, has a cheesy looking wolf for an emblem, like a bad tattoo.

We used to have a company called "Weekend Tree Work" in our area. Not kidding. Then apparently things were going so well that he went full time to tree work and his slogan was "Not just weekends anymore!" Again, no lie.

The company is no longer in business, go figure.

It bothers me when people use first names. I don't know why...it just does. At TCIA I saw Casey's Tree Service...and someone from the company did a talk...I wasn't able to get to it but the first name thing just gets to me.

Here's two from my neck of the woods:

F&K's Tree Service (so I always read it "F'n K's") maybe it's just me...

the other speaks for itself:

Lucky Cut Tree Service

That's funny.

I went to the CTPA course with this guy. Rick S. He was getting his arborist license. I saw him last year at the CPTA meeting, wearing his Weekend Tree Work shirt.

Tom you remember George of the Jungle Tree Service up here in MN?

Top Notch Treecare was a good name for me, when I used it and shortened it in my email - tnttreeman. I realized people must think I am pretty full of myself.
Dynamite tree guy . . . yeah right
Oh well whattya gonnna do
