When you approach a tree as you describe above, do you generally retie a new primary canopy anchored line when you go aloft? Or, it just depends. Sometimes you’re good to go with the original approach?
For big conifers rec climbing I’ll leave the base anchored access line in place, might improve its placement then advance with a say 60’ line I’ve tailed up, climb above the SRS upper anchor MRS alternating with my lanyard. On return from the top I’ll get back on the original basal anchor and descend out.
For broadleaf trees I’ll add more length to the base anchor with my 60’ short rope so overall I’ll have enough line in play to lanyard in and advance the SRS system and still be to reach the ground from anywhere in the tree and pull it out easily from the ground when I’m done. Probably should bring more of this conversation to the rec section of the ’Buzz, technical aporoach is veering from more typical work climbing best practices.
