Combining ropes in SRT

Vortex is such a great rope IMO good to see it getting some good reputation every now and then. And again the HH shines as the SRT device usable with thicker ropes (which I prefer)...
Cant climb with Vortex and a RW though, way to much friction! And that is also why you write about getting away with such short knot Kevin, right? 2 Wraps? =)

@DumpyMcDoodleface

I've been on a combined two rope system for a while now. One 100' length of KM III for the Akimbo and an 80' of Imori set up with a HH2. Combined if required for a base anchor. Otherwise the KM III is my main and the Imori is my retrieval. With the HH2 always on the Imori I have the option of splitting the two lines when I need a second tie in point. Richard Mumford made a video on this technique. You just need to leave the tail from your main line (retrieval end) low enough in the tree that you can access the second line if required.

I would highly recommend going with longer lengths than 50'. We have fairly small trees in this area and yet this setup feels like it's the bare minimum on length sometimes. For trees greater than 80' I usually ditch the Imori and use a 120' for the main and KM III for the retrieval. I'll try to post some pictures.

i have a 250’ piece of KM III and 100‘ of xstatic ...
bare minimum for this area! I max out the 250’ on base ties regularly

You're using 350' of rope regularly?

did you not read that? The answer is within my original post

I have a hard time getting shots over 120’ with the big shot. The trigger helps with accuracy but kills the power. Even getting the line up and over is one thing ... actually getting the throw weight down to the ground, and then actually getting a rope through the canopy, are a whole ‘nother challenge

Well yes I did, I'm just trying to make sure I understood it right. Your original post just said you needed that length. I dunno, I guess it never occurred to me that shooting over 100' was a thing. At least not a typical thing.
