Coeffecient of friction

Did they recommend round turns to tie the swing to a limb? How should a tire swing be attached to a limb? For a regular swing, I've used lags, rope by itself, and rope run through hose and tubing.

As a side note: I like this knot page. It's a practical page which has a few "good knots".

This is a really good link Tom! How much time do you spend on the computer?

I can think of a certain discussion on another webpage that that equation would be helpful. It certainly gives my anyalitical mind (I can anyalize, but not spell) somthing to mull over when tying my friction hitches.

Thanks, now I'll be up all night with my physics books examining all of my favorite knots!

I built a rope swing for a client where I used heavy, yellow webbing slings. I double wrapped them around the limb and left a long eye to allow for growth. A biner was installed in the eyes and then I tied the ropes on using a double fishermans hitch. The swing was made from a two inch thick slab of burr oak. All I did was sand it smooth and drill holes for the ropes. Stopper knots underneath.

When I built the swing my client was there. She wanted to be the first to test it out. Being selfish :) I told her that I should be the one to have it break on its test flight. She got the second flight. After we'd tested it her son came home from school and was all smiles :) Its fun getting paid to bring smiles to the world.

I don't spend much time watching TV. The net is my sedative. Most of the links I find are from wanderings off of discussion forums.
